Hawker Siddley Dominie T.1 to HRH Carrier
« on: September 23, 2022, 09:31:24 AM »
Hi all

Second entry to run in parallel with the Hawk.

I was going to do a back story about the Queens flight acquiring a couple of these but in the words of the late great and still missed Brian Da Basher I got 'skunked by reality' they did use VIP 125's all be it CC2's.

So a very tenuous backstop

One aircraft was taken off the flight line and converted to a VIP configuration for use as a more clandestine transport for the Royals. It was given a relatively plain white paint scheme to blend in with most bizjets of the time. It kept its registration and call sign so to the outside world it was still a training aircraft. It was used for a few years then quietly returned to its training role when the need for an incognito operation was no longer required.

More when it happens......

I was going to do a CC.2, the grey scheme with blue trim, but for that I'd need a Matchbox version, and they're not cheap . . .

cheers,

Look for a Sword U125 kit -- they have one as a C-29A too. These are Hawker 125-800's

I looked at one of those, the windshield and engines are wrong for a CC.2, 'Spose I could have Whiffed it as a 'CC.4', but I decided to go in a somewhat different direction. More when the kit arrives . . .  ;)

Hi all

Got some work done on this one. It is one of the re-released 'classic' series but I don't think they have done much to the molds, cockpit detail is spartan and cabin detail non existent there is some flash and part fit is acceptable given the age of the kit.

Here is the story so far......

I'm using elastic bands because none of my clamps would stay in position

I haven't bothered to detail the interior you can see very little through the windows.

More when it happens...

Hi all

The Dominie is following the Hawk into the spray shop for a light primering

I never realised until now what a good looking aircraft this is  8)

I also need to start the decal design.

Thanks for looking

Looking good Mog

It really is. Handsome and purposeful ... but perky at the same time. The '800s lose a bit of the latter, IMHO.

Hi all

After the debacle that was spraying the Hawk I decided to put on hold any more airbrushing on competition builds for the moment and have gone  back to rattle cans.

I gave the Dominie a coat of Tamiya primer, resolved a few faults , then gave it another couple of coats. It looked so good I've decided to leave it the semi gloss primer finish. I will probably give it a coat of Alt Kleer when it's finished.

The photo shows it ready for decals and the cockpit glass. The leading edges have been painted silver and that will probably be all of the paint work finished leaving the decals to make it pop (i hope!).

Just have to get my ass into gear and design them decals.

More when it happens.

 Hi all

Had a bit of a setback while removing the masking liquid from the windows, the windows sagged back into the fuselage i managed to push them back by drilling a hole in the back of the cockpit and inserting a screwdriver but while attempting to fix them with some glue they fell back into the fuselage. So now i have an HS125 that rattles.

Tried some Clearfix to make new ones but that had gone gloopy ( does anyone know how to thin clearfix ?) so i have a new bottle on order at great expense.

Started work on the decals which is looking like it will be a hybrid of the later aircraft colour scheme and the earlier aircrafts stencils.

Thanks for looking.....

shouldn't the side windows be tinted ? ;)  I've used PVA glue mixed with black acrylic paint before.

Why spend big dollars on Clearfix when cheap wood glue works.

Personally, I find that although PVA does the job, it's not as clear as Clearfix, not as strong nor is it as humidity resistant once dry.

Well slap me down with a kipper and  call me Kevin  :icon_zombie: :icon_zombie: :icon_zombie:

THE WINDOWS ARE BACK IN !  :o :o

Believe it or don't  I was having a last ditch attempt at shaking the windows back in when there was a quiet click and it dropped into place. Being ultra carefull to keep the windows facing down I gingerly Inserted a thin screwdriver through the hole in the cockpit bulkhead and pinned it against the fuselage, this allowed me to run some ultrathin glue around the windows (reached and opened bottle one handed!).

Made sure the glue was working. Taped the screwdriver in place and left it in the Draw of Construction to set.

Finally the gods of plastic karma have smiled on me  :icon_meditation: :icon_meditation: :icon_meditation:

Ran round the workroom a few times and treated myself to a large slug of single malt whiskey  ;)

Mog is back on track !

Any suggestions of what to sacrifice to the Carpet Monster? In my home the Monster keeps eating stuff in spite of the fact, that there is NO CARPET in the Hobby Room  :(

There are various Monsters that consume styrene (Carpet, Lino, Vinyl, Concrete, Timber, there's probably even a Rubber one) but all are only satisfied by either styrene or blood, preferably copious amounts of BLOOD. :o
