I'm thinking construction of such a beast would have to be done in a special way given no dry dock (or harbour for that matter) could handle such a beast.  How big do you estimate this beast would have been in the real world?

For comparison, the longest ship ever constructed was the Knock Nevis supertanker which 458m long with a displacement of 646,642 long tons full load.

In the above diagram, we have:

- The Pentagon, 431m (Light blue)
- RMS Queen Mary 2, 345m (Pink)
- US Navy's nuclear-powered USS Enterprise, 342m (Yellow)
- Airship LZ 129 Hindenburg, 245m (Green)
- Imperial Japanese Navy's Yamato, 263m (Dark blue)
- Empire State Building, 443m (Grey)
- Apple Park main building, 464m and 354m diameters (Green)
- Knock Nevis supertanker, 458m (Red)

This ship has an interesting history going through various names and owners in its 30yr life.  Perhaps most interesting is the fact that it was damaged and sunk in 1988 by an Iraqi Air Force attack while anchored off Larak Island, Iran. The ship was struck by parachute bombs. Fires ignited aboard the ship and blazed out of control and it sank in the shallow waters off the coast.  It was declared a total loss and was written off.  Later on though it was salvaged and repaired and re-entered service in 1991.

Crunching numbers says 2104 feet.  Does require a supersized dry dock.  Look forward to finishing....  Are aircraft to also do....

Like to build other ships as mega sized to 1/700.

Appreciate the size profiles.  Interesting.

So a bit over 641m and thus about 40% larger than the Knock Nevis.

I love how tiny the B-29 looks on the forward catapult.

With all the OOB and kit-bash pieces fiddle fitted together am smoothing out the most obvious finish issues.  Lotta stuff to tend to joint and paint wise.  Not trying for perfection, just good enough.

Thanks for bearing with slow pace of progress to photograph.  Most complicated model build ever.

Mega-Carrier not abandoned.  Air group build is ongoing.  1/1 car projects and being in resistance against Agenda 21 transit Marxist-Nazis takes up time.

Tried B-29 wing fold at alerion mid point.   Though fits elevator scrapped that.   Fold at inboard edge of alerion is aesthetically and hanger deck room way to go.

Came down learning curve for inserting nail weight in forward fuselage.   No problem.   Still have to move main gear reward to sit on nose gear.   Kinda hassle.

Just realized otta file turrets off one or two B-29 as designated A-bombers.   As on Enola Gay and Bockscar for weight & drag reduction.

Also have normal B-29s for conventional missions.

Liking look of multi B-17, B-25, B-29, C-47 on deck.   Do the single engines last.

A disappointment of 1/700 carrier kits is they do not include props for aircraft.

Glad to hear all is proceeding apace with the mega-carrier.

I can imagine what those planes look like on the deck and I'm liking it.

I confess I’ve not visited the Sea forum since (maybe?) posting the beginnings of my HMS Sheffield and Lusitania projects perhaps four years ago so this one totally slipped under my radar...unlike this vessel were it in real life!

Dear lord, Bill, this thing is a monster! I’m speechless! What an impressive concept and I love the systematic way you’re approaching it.

I don’t do carriers, but I’m following this one. Wow. It doesn’t need a hull number, it needs a seat on the United Nations!

Mega-Carrier is "essentially"  "99%" done.   Few nits to fuss with over time.   Air group can be tweaked over time.   1/700 propeller painting & gluing is not example of fun of model building.   Could forgo doing props as some 1/700 aircraft do not come with props.   Instead went for finding props for all.   Does look better that way.   Scrounged around for donor props as needed.

Current air group is:  folded and non-folded wing B-29,  B-25,  B-17,  C-47,  SB2C,  F4U-4

When get better camera will post pictures.

Finishing post construction model room cleanup then back to 1/72.

As said in prior post  ---  Mega-Carrier is "essentially"  "99%" done.   Few nits to fuss with over time.   Will be center piece of fleet if/when return to 1/700 ships.
Pictures with aircraft on deck are attached.

I love that you have PT boats as ship's launches in the stern.  ;D

It might need more fighters to really show how big it is. the use of the big bombers almost normalises the visual scale to 1/350 again. A bunch of 1/700 fighters would really indicate just how humongeous this thing really is.

Thanks all for following and comments on this long build, really was complicated project and time to set aside for now.
Is Elco 80 ft boat on port side and Vosper boat on starboard where there is less room.   Yes, more single engine aircraft will help with seeing size of carrier.   Get to that later.
