TTomcat Target Profiles
« on: October 02, 2016, 12:53:17 AM »
Delving into the profile business, warning: Rough Rough profiles I'm new to this, and not everything will be to scale!! I simply shrank things to fit. Maybe someone will be encouraged and do some test fitting with kits?  :)

I love the sharp mantlet of the STZ T-34, so this is the T-34/85 version. I like it. I kinda prefer the small turret versions of the T-34 myself so this is a fun middle ground

Very rudimentary APC/IFV based on the BMP. I used a PanZer 4 turret with a short barrel as I think this is the closest german tank turret to the BMP 1. (Might go with a long barrel Panzer 4 to replicate the BMP-2) And then I just cut and pasted to fit the late war style wheels from a King Tiger. I deleted the infantry weapons ports to just make it look more simple and disguise (a little) the origin of the Hull

Hopefully I have time to do more  :) I have PMed Logan a few times this summer and he has a great mind for stuff like this, hope to profile of some of our Ideas, even If I can't get them to plastic (yet)

Panzer IV turret on a BMP hull is brilliant!

If you want something with a longer barrel, I would imagine the 50mm gun from the SDKFZ series Puma would be a better choice.  The recoil and blast effects of the 75mm KwK out of the muzzle end of the barrel might be a bit much for your BMP.

Thanks! And thats a good point about the cannon size!

Just tinkering, though this is one I want to do in plastic, (remember this is not to scale) But I think it would work well. T-34 Running gear, and turret to back date.

Early T-54 with a T-62 turret. Kind of a Backdated version I suppose. Might remove the Night spotlights to further bring it back in time. Love the look of the T-62 turret. Just this solid dome...

Abrams turret shrunk, placed forward for T-34/42 look

More conventional T-54 placement

Do it with 1/35 hull and 1/48 turret ?
Don't have the kits to check this out.

Tried that a few times in plastic and with a paper 1/48 scale turret. Was tinkering with it again in profiling this very afternoon. Really hard to make it look right. Panthers are tall hulls. Abrams turret is very thin and narrow. I might trying and change the Abrams turret proportions to make it work, but so far... just doesn't fit IMHO

Neither do I. 1/48 Abrams kits seem rare and expensive, or are RC toys. Aoshima is supposed to do a good one, but it costs what a 1/35 one does!!  :-X I have a paper model Abrams turret I will have to check it with.

In progress Example for GTX:

What about going the other way:  A panther turret on an Abrams hull?

Shouldn't that Lambo be an Aston Martin? Or is that the Italian 007(Bonedetti, Giamo Bonedetti)'s car? ??? ;)

nice look to it!  :)

I sheered off the top half of the hull here^

So I wanted to enter a physical model but I was having a hard time finding the mojo. I broke out all kinds of boxes of kits, including my giants spares box:

and I found some of my Resin Castings had attached and reacted:

yikes!! So I have packed everything back up and will probably just stick to the computer made stuff for this GB  :-[

Last one. Sorry I couldn't find a larger AAV-7. This is Soviet "Tuna Boat." O0  As a small thank you to Lemon Jello for hosting this mad house   :)

I know what you mean. I actually have 3 different kits of the ol'Tuna Boat in the stash. The Hobbyboss offering will get made as-is, a Tamiya kit that will get some kind of upgrades or a NLOS-type system in the troop area and a Modeller (??? Tamiya rip-off, motorized) boxing that I've scavenged the UGWS turret from for my riverine project that may get completely parted out for a potential EFV WhIf.

Of your design studies, my personal fave is the conventionally-placed scale-o-rama Abrams turret on the T-54. But your BMP/T-34 mash-up has huge potential!

AAVs are hard to whif but I have a few ideas  8)

A few thoughts pop up on potential AAV whifs. One would be to second-guess the AAV-SU and come up with your own take on the Survivability Upgrade. Alternatively, come up with whif plans for the remaining 2/3rds of the 'stock' AAV fleet.

I had a go at a shortened AAV-7 (attached below) because ... ??

In the Profiles section, I also had a go in at using the AAV-7 track system for a distinct USMC IFV series.

Oh, I don't know.  Any sort of turret on rear deck - e.g. 155mm SPG.  Maybe a MLRS setup in rear compartment?  VLS missile system in same area?  Remove rear altogether and replace with flat deck for cargo?  Do brightly coloured civilian scheme?  Do martian version?

I came to a belated realization regarding the "Abrams Turret On Panther Hull" idea......

One of your photos shows a Tiger II kit box, and the Tiger II technically has a sufficient turret ring size for T-54/55 turret......

Is a Jaguar turret close enough in terms of aesthetics?

Granted, this suggestion is likely gonna be useful only to people who scratchbuild since I am not aware of any commercially-available kit for the Type 59 Jaguar......
