Who, I repeat, who profaned a classical MiG-15 silhouette with this paint scheme? It just don't look right for me.

Those are 17s, no?

They are 17's. That paint scheme is not much to think about, and why would you go for the most garish monochrome interference pattern camo, then stick subdued makings on it?

The MiG-17s are from a civilian aerobatic display team called the Black Diamond Jet Team

The Black Diamond Jet Team flies seven jet aircraft – five L-39s and two MiG-17s, all paint in arctic camouflage. The team is sponsored by United Bank Card, Inc. and is based at Lakeland, FL, USA.

Some of the team’s pilots are well known air show performers as Team Leader Lt. Colonel Jerry "Jive" Kerby, USAF (ret.) and Lead Solo Performer in the single MiG-17 Captain Dale "Snort" Snodgrass, USN (ret.). Kerby and Snodgrass currently make up the two-ship civilian jet team Team MS760. Kerby was the first USAF F-4 Phantom Heritage Flight pilot in 2005 and has also flown the Vintage Thunderbird T-33 for the past five years. Snodgrass is well-known from his days as the F-14 Tomcat Demo Pilot and continues to fly with both the USAF Heritage Flight and USN Legacy Flight programs. Snodgrass recently flew the F-86 Sabre painted in Skyblazers colors. With over 20,000 hours of flight time and 25 years of air show experience between them as well as military flight training in the F-15 and F-14, Kerby and Snodgrass bring a solid base of skill, expertise, and showmanship to the Black Diamond Jet Team.

The team was officially announced as “Heavy Metal Jet Team” in the beginning of November 2010, as a five ship display team flying four L-39 and one T-33 planes, based at Lancaster, PA. Then the T-33 Shooting Star aircraft was piloted by Captain Dale Snodgrass.

In July 2011, The Heavy Metal Jet Team announced the addition of one MiG-17 replacing the T-33, which was grounded after maintenance problems.

Almost a year later in October 2011 the team changed the name to its present “Black Diamond Jet Team” and added another MiG-17. Then the team transited to new home base at Lakeland, FL.

You know, that's about the best I think I've ever seen a Raptor look. :-*

Normally, I find the Raptor's looks just don't do it for me.

Bathing in some very polluted air, probably nearby forest fires. Tis the season here in Zona and Cali. right now. Some sunrises/sunsets even go to purple when it gets really foul.

Agree on the raptor not normally providing excitement , upnorth'. Navy should be flying A-12's instead of all those bugs, and the F-23 should be the standard of the next gen.

The picture is interesting for me in that it shows the droop in the outer wing panels really well. Reminds me that there was genuine stealth planning into the airfoils versus just pretty-ing up a F-15 planform.

I love it. I absolutely love it. This is going to be my wallpaper on my computer. I may also print it out onto some photo paper to put up on the wall. GSTQ!

Some neat shot of the test birds.  Didn't know they had a few of them.

That there's something Dynavert-like there in 1981 doesn't surprise me, but what's that thing on the left that looks like a 4-engined An-72?

I believe that's the QSRA (Quiet Stol Research Aircraft).  Essentially a Buffalo with a new wing fitted with four upper surface-blowing turbofans.  I believe they were ALF501s left over from Northrop's unsuccessful A-9A program, IIRC.

The thought occurs to me that a caled down version with the wing mated to a long-body MU-2 fuselage would work well.  Perhaps with TFE331 engines or, at the most, TFE731 engines?

I suggest the MU-2 because it has a one-piece wing that bolts to the fuselage with four large bolts and it uses no hydraulics at all to simplify the systems installation.

Night ride is a spectacular shot! Probably my favourite of the bunch. Composition-wise my favourite is probably Ridgeline walk, and content-wise, I really like Afghanistan chat.

Same here , especially the chat. The photo is dated 4/28, not even a month ago. While often looking corny and posed, especially if there is a lot of similar shots, these moments also show --- our most powerful armament in use.

Rotor static is always a great night shot.
