One very big aircraft!

Steve Trimble @TheDEWLine

This happened 9yrs ago today. Discovery’s final ride to the Smithsonian annex at Dulles. The FAA allowed the NASA pilots to cruise over the Potomac and downtown DC at the lowest altitude I’ve ever seen for a non-military aircraft. I was on the Potomac bank. No zoom lens needed.

Found this wonderful image of the No. 136 RAF flight line taken in 1944. It was only 63 KB's big, and thus the definition was not that good, but I felt it worth the effort!?

Original caption:
'Spitfire Mk VIIIs and personnel of No. 136 Squadron RAF lined up on a recently-laid PSP airstrip on Brown's West Island, Cocos Islands, in the Indian Ocean.'

The nearest aircraft is 'HM-B', MT567, belonging to Flt. Sgt. R. W. Cross, who is most likely seen standing the nose of the aircraft.

This is a shot of a 379th BG formation supposedly over the English channel. It was an image that was quite damaged, but was such a lovely looking photo, I was compelled to get at it!?

The aircraft in the immediate foreground (as can be seen) is 43-37677 which is believed to have been named 'Barbara Jane'. 524BS - 379BG, WA-A. She flew around 75 missions with the 379th between June 1944 and April 1945, and returned home 9th July '45.

Apart from that good people, not a lot is known about the image, the mission date, or anything so I have nothing else to supply you with in the caption at this time.

This is a photo of the Snowbirds during their annual spring practice sessions at CFB Comox. Photo taken by Chris Hadfield who is flying just a wee bit higher and faster.

From the FB post:
If I am correct this was April 22, 2013. I was there taking pictures of the Snowbirds training and was later interviewed by the local news. Apparently this was timed in such a way that the ISS would come over at the moment the Snowbirds were flying.

This is a rare photo the United State's attempt to take-over Canada a 2nd time. This is Toronto beside the CNEW and along Lake Shore Drive looking west.

This is most likely part of the 1951 Royal Visit to Canada.
