That’s also a good idea. I’ve been thinking of a SAR mission for some country with a long coastline along the Mediterranean Sea like Italy or Greece. I would have to cut or engrave a large door on the side in front of the wing. That might be a good idea just for boarding the passengers on the Vista Cruiser.

Something different:

Wow GTX, that's a really fascinating photo which goes a long way in explaining to me the layout of the intake, radar/shock cone and cockpit 😯👍

Cheers

Thanks for bringing this back to my attention, M.A.D.

Is it just me or would this, in its current configuration, make an awesome basis for a sci-fi space fighter? :D

Still not too late to reconsider making this an "air-yacht" for some Russian Oil Tycoon.

No recent WIP but work done before I packed it in on my first attempt to create a what-if TB2F-1 Tracker torpedo bomber.  The attached images show what work was done with the wings and engine nacelles before this all got put on hold.  I have another S-2E/F Tracker kit to work with now and have been slowly combining what was done with the original project to the box containing the new Tracker kit.

In the first two attached images you can see the cut out on the leading edge of the right wing where the searchlight was to be mounted has been filled in with some scrap plastic and then covered with some putty.  Once this had dried I went over it with a silver paint pen to see how the surface looked.  I am pleased with the outcome so far.  The Tracker wing has three sets of holes for the stores pylons.  I used a draufting compass to try and mark up an additional set of holes for a fourth pylon under each wing.  Only one done so far.

The two engine nacelles required a bit more work and more to be done later.  The ends were modified by sanding away most of the surface features except for the two large holes which I am going to try and use for engine turbocharger exhausts.  That is the current plan for now.  The top of each engine nacelle at the rear above the two holes still has a very noticeable seam to contend with.  It is quite pronounced and really stands out when viewed up close.  It does appear that this may have to be covered with some thin plastic card stock if it gets sanded too thin or a new set of engine nacelles will have to be used.  The Tracker kits are blessed with several different types of engine nacelles so that is an option if things do not go as planned.

To set things straight on where I am trying to take this idea.

I am not using the large drop-down radar dome and will cover that over with the kit part included for that purpose.

The people side of the Tracker will be cut away to mirror the bomb bay on the right side of the fuselage.  Same as was done with the original S2F-1/S-2A Tracker kit.

Removing the search light from the wing might have been a mistake as I could have converted that to become a radar pod mounted in the wing.  I do have some resin AN/APS-4 radar pods that can be used for a pylon mounted radar pod which would fit right in with the whole TB2F-1 concept.  Or start over on the wings again and use the new wing with the searchlight to make it an in the wing mounted radar.  Too early to tell on that right now.

The preference at the moment is to use the QuickBoost resin packaged machine guns intended for the Martin B-26 Marauder on the Tracker fuselage to provide forward firing machine guns.  Since there is no room in the nose for weapons this is the logical approach to giving the Tracker some machine guns without resorting to major body and fender work.

Weapons load is flexible at this point.  I wanted to have the luxury of the Tracker being able to carry two Mk.XIII torpedoes internally or four 1000-pound bombs or a combination of smaller bombs.  The additional stores pylon under each wing would give the Tracker eight stations for carriage of small bombs or 5.0"/127mm HVAR which would have been a typical load out, even with six stores pylons that would still be a very impressive offensive load out.

All of the above is still subject to change depending on my skills and my muse.

Here's what the Vista Cruiser might look like.

Lots of sanding to get the dome to fit properly. Let's see if I can break it just before its finished!
