Lockheed RF-80C Big Wing

(1/2) > >>

The Big Gimper:
Folks:

I would like to build a long wing (surprised?) F-80 recce bird. There was a RW short wing RF-80A available from Sword.

My base is the Airfix P-80C. The nose is TBD  but the wings on the F/P-80 are quite small (the P-38 wings are almost the same dimensions). And I need to keep the wheel wells unless I opt for an entirely new wing.

I was thinking of the outer portion of a U-2 wing. Any other wings from this era that might work?

Carl, the Heller 1/72 T-33 kit comes with a recon nose as an option, it didn't take much to swap it over to an Airfix F-80

Daryl J.:
Scratchbuild from laminated styrene sheet (aka old credit cards)?

Tis a thought.

The Big Gimper:
KN617: I do have a RT-33 in the stash. Maybe that's my donor nose or I reverse the build and use RT-33 as the base.

Dr. J: That is an option too. I have never done such a scratch build undertaking.

1/144 L-1049 Constellation wings, quick and nasty drawing attached.
