Hello All,
The year is 1944. The Photo Reconnaissance units of the Royal Air Force have been made aware that the new Spitfire 21 can outpace and outclimb the P.R. 19. Supermarine was then approached for a PR version of the new fighter, and with the help of Rolls-Royce, came up with the Spitfire P.R. 21. The P.R. 21 was powered by a version of the Spiteful痴 Griffon 101, with a 3-speed, 2 stage supercharger, and a cabin supercharger. Did I also mention a contra-prop? Supermarine produced a small test run by early 1945, but by then, the European war was over, so the P.R. 21痴 were sent to South East Asia Command. Post war, there was no need for a non standard batch of Spitfires, so the PR. 21痴 were broken up.
