Considering how old the Hawk one is, if you can find it (I don't remember Testors ever re-popping that one), I imagine this one will be popular. Also great whiffing material.
-
Agreed. Two to start.

Army "Ground" Force. I guess they needed the "ground" part, since it was an aircraft...on the water.
-
In the latest issue of Air-Britain Aviation World, there's a photo of one which was left to the elements up in Alaska. I'll re-read the caption but I think it was recovered and restored.
EDIT: The caption say the photo was taken in 1982 and it was on floats back then. It continues to say that this is the same aircraft that appeared at Air Venture last year in a restored state but on wheels.

Just appeared at ModelUA - the greatest Schnieder Cup contestant that never was...
https://modelsua.com/piaggio-pegna-p-c-7-schneider-trophy-1-48-amp48011.html
And it's in 1/48th. Not my scale, but it's fairly reasonable for a limited run kit all the same.

But shouldn't be too hard to scratch build though ---

Doesn't someone make a conversion for that in 1/72? Or is that for some other modified Dash 8 used by the military?
-
The only other Dash-8 mod I know of is the CAF CT-142 "Gonzo"

I think I have a few photo's of the Australian Coastwatch version, somewhere in my Christmas Island photo collection.
I'll have a look later, see if I can find any.

I've got this one in the stash.
While working at the airport, I saw a real one coming in for a landing.
-
Chalk one up to an old fart's memory, then. Anyone know where I can purchase that conversion kit? I've got the Dash 8 kits to use it on.

The sheet has been OOP for 14 years. It does occasionally show up on Ebay but at crazy pricing.
The owner of Leading Edge Decals, Dave Koss, from I have been told is a bit eccentric. He generally does not reply to any correspondence. Have you had any success Robert?
He will occasionally revive OOP sheets but which sheet what and when is known only to himself.

Interesting. Load capacity doesn't look to be much though. ???
You were saying -----
This appears to have different more simplified tail planes though
-
Ah, but are those drums full or empty? ??? ;)
-
I would have to say empty ---
-
According to Boeing, it had a maximum useful load to empty weight ratio of 1.75 to 1. Therefore, if its empty weight was 1111kg, we are talking about a useful load of just over 1944kg.
Either way, the box art makes me think of something from Avatar.
-
Francillon gives the following:
Rotor diameter: 31' 9" (9.45 m)
Length: 20' (6.1 m)
Height: 9' 3" (2.74 m)
Empty weight: 2,450 lb (1,111 kg)
Loaded weight: 5,000 lb (2,268 kg
Max weight: 6,300 lb (2,858 kg)
Rotor loading: 6.6 lb/sq ft (32.3 kg/sq m)
Max speed: 138 mph (222 km/h)
Cruise speed: 109 mph (175 km/h)
Rate of Climb: 2,400 ft/min (12 m/sec)
Hover Ceiling in Ground Effect: 12,000' (3,660 m)
Range: 98 miles (158 km)
It's roughly 40% of the size of the K-Max with 42% of the load capacity,
really not too shabby for the period.

How did it counter the rotor torque?
IF memory serves me correctly (not guaranteed at my age), it was tip-jet driven.
-
Correct and as such no torque issue.
-
crife... so what is the big mass of engine for? Forward thrust?
And there would be high pressure fuel lines running through the rotors I guess. Wow.

See here (https://apps.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a030738.pdf) - particularly the first paragraph on the top of the second page. The engines were essentially compressed air generators and also provided forward thrust.
BTW, there was a proposal for an armed version with a recoils gun:

Apparently real, Frank - I saw some Sprue shots on that, ah, social media page yesterday. Surprising choice, but somebody seems to like it.

I reckon their MC.72 has to be loads better than the old Artiplast offering.
-
Carving the MC-72 out of a bar of soap with a pocket knife would be better than the artiplast kit.
-
Repression isn't good, tell us what you really think. ;D
-
Woo! I will have to get the Pc 7 - it'll go nice next to my Delta 2 MC 72.

Appearing on MikroMirs Facebook page is news that AMP is to release the Canberra B2 in 1:72 scale
The AMP Canberra B.2 release follows the Canberra T.Mk 11 they released in 2018. Apparently S&M Models released this kit in 2017 and its thought the moulds originated from AMP.
