What the Hell was that? I would have said it was based on a Moke, but the engine looks wrong.

The Vickers must have been clapped out, 'coz the gunner was having to hand-cycle the bolt.

The Polish Ford FT-B seems more colorful than I'd imagined. Also, small. I built the RPM 1/35 and had a hard time figuring how two grown adults would fit in that thing.

VW put a Bug based entry in the Le Mans 24 hour ....

...

In 1969, Emerson Fittipaldi raced a double-engined VW Beetle.

""""
The Alfa Romeo engined prototype design the Fittipaldi's were building was running late ....
They had previously developed a VW Beetle, but it wasn't powerful enough. An idea dawned on Divila. The old Jacarepagua circuit was much twistier than today, and what you wanted was a good power to weight ratio. Divila reached for his slide-rule and worked it out. What about doing a twin engined race car with minimal weight?

The original design layout was really done on the back of a fag packet, with additional work done on some Churrascaria Interlagos paper napkins (Churrascaria is the Brazilian Barbecue house)....

During the first test at Interlagos in November 1969, the rear bodywork was blown clean off, but it was still entered in the Rio de Janeiro 1000 Kms held on the Guanabara circuit. Carlos Pace qualified first, at 1:30.9 in a new Alfa Romeo 33 2.0 litre V8. The Fittipaldi 3200, driven by Wilson Fittipaldi, qualified 2nd at 1:36.3, ahead of a Porsche special, a Lola-Chevrolet R70, and a Ford GT40. It wasn't expected to last for long during the race, but with Emerson Fittipaldi driving, it was in 3rd at the end of lap 1, 2nd by lap 5 behind Pace, and comfortably holding off the Lola and GT40. But before the end of the first half hour, the car broke down - it had broken its gearbox.

For those inspired to do a mid-20th century version of Leno's car, this lifted from the Navy GB section -

Vosper already had 3 x RR Merlins, how many aircraft engines do you want! :o

The Vosper used three Packard 4M-2500 V-12s, which was the
standard engine in UK MTB/MGB and US PT-Boats. The Merlin
was not used in any of these boats.

Seems like a useful build for one of those old 1/24th scale Jeep kits.

An average jeep could do only 50 or so miles per hour. Several military police (MP) patrols had chased one of our jeeps into a Navy base near Apra Harbor on Guam. This jeep was amazingly faster than most. I don’t recall when, where, or who finally captured it, but it was impounded at an equipment storage yard near Asan where I had to pull guard duty on too many occasions.  Finally, a look under the hood revealed this particular jeep’s secret—some enterprising sailor had installed a Ford V-8 in the Willys!

When he was stationed in the Phillipines at the end of and after WWII Wally Parks, co-founder
of Hot Rod and Motor Trend magazines, founder of the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association)
the original drag-racing sanctioning body, hot-rodded a Bantam BRC-40 Ford GP with a 136 ci
Ford V8-60 Flathead from a captured Japanese vehicle. Love the shiny beauty rings on the
wheels. The name has been commonly been translated as 'Follow Me', however another Tagalog
to English translation is 'C'mon do it'.
 ;D
The BRC-40 Ford GP was a limited production version of Bantam's Ford's competitor for the GP
competition that was won by Willys, even though Ford got the big production contracts for the
Willys MB.

Edited due to corrected information about the vehicle, it's a Ford GP rather than a Bantam.

The top pick has a dozer blade attached to the front (which would explain the twin-axle front end), so that implies a few possibilities;

1. Airfield repair crew vehicle (to fix bomb cratered runways/taxiways);
2. Ordnance clearing vehicle (to clear small munitions from the airfield; for example: cluster bomb time-delayed/contact sub-munitions);
3. Both 1 & 2; or
4. Airfield snow plough.
