This as an FYI  ---  heard today from a reliable source that Revell will soon re-release 1/72 Arado 555 kit.

If anyone is looking for a thoroughly enjoyable, big model to build, this is it. No major fit issues, finely detailed and plenty of whiffing potential.

  Make one into a Lufthansa 46' plane, first jet airliner. Use some 144th airliner hull bits with the 555 to make a cabin.
 
  Maybe a Mistel with a Go 229 as the upper part.

  Go Asymmetrical, Tophe style- put the cockpit ahead of the LH fin.

The Arado E.555 certainly appears to be very popular with the remote control crowd. 

A possible "upgrade" for E.555 might be to try and mount a pair of A-10 engines in place of the smaller jet units. 

How about a fighter type canopy and windscreen for the pilot?  Maybe off-set to one side like the Vixen and Canberra? 

The E.555 is begging for a dash of scale-o-rama to turn it into a fighter bomber.

1/72 P-26 will be released again too.  Pick one up whenever I find a P-26.  Have configuration planned and parts for next version:  P-26D.

Link to 555 variants plus Greg's variation are inspiring for doing bashes of them.  Even OOB it is like a bash.  Think four are in the stash.
Am envisioning many ways to go with bashes.  With only paint and markings changes it would look cool as another RAF V bomber and/or serving in SAC.  Yes - good subject for a group build.

Notice that Arado 555 does not have "reissue" behind it, where as P-26 does.
Might be modified with more features.

Built this a while back.
Modified the layout of the engine to match a Luft '46 drawing I found in a Secret Projects book.
This book was also the inspiration for the 4 gun turret.

Hitler’s new fighting jets open a terrifying new front in a truly global war! War Cabinet sent reeling!

If those sound like headlines from a pulp fiction novel, dime-store boy’s annual or some kind of alternate history movie poster, then you’re pretty much on the right track. However, it’s also an accurate depiction of the box art on one of my favourite models of all time, the ultra-futuristic Arado E.555. This titan of Luft ’46 subjects is still a kit I can’t believe that a mainstream kit producer actually made, nevermind that it has seen multiple releases! The crazy part is that this 6-engined flying wing was a real project, this particular variant being the first in a family of “Amerika Bombers” developed by Arado.

What?  :o Prices already up again? They only re-boxed this recently.

EDIT: Scalemates tells me the re-release was in 2012. So much for recently.  :-X Time really does fly. Whether there's fun being had or not.  :uuu:
