3.7In Recoilless Rifle Bren Carrier
« on: June 14, 2021, 08:33:59 PM »
Having a cabinet clean out and found this at the back, an early RW German Tank hunter team carrier, with Panzerschrecks.

I remember seeing an nifty what if scene on ANZAC Plastic blog with a Carrier with an RCL in the Desert.
http://anzacplastic.blogspot.com/2011/12/135-universal-carrier-dan.html

Some very nice other builds on there as well. Look up the Waterworld Barge on WIM, same guy.

There are some RW examples as well, the Argentinians used a T16 Carrier and a Belgian or Danish version.
Anyhooo.. I decided to have a mind meld with this idea with my take on this principle.

Recalling the Borgward build that started out with an Recoilless Rifle type mount that migrated to missiles, I dug out the RCL component from where it had been stored away.

I have based my RCL on the British 3.7inch or maybe the 95mm RCL development from 1944, which did not see service until 1946 as an Airborne weapon, eventually to become the MOBAT or WOMBAT
Test fit at the Hmmmmmm stage.

Started to flesh out the mount a bit more. Box in the rear stowage for the BBDA.

A few of these at Arnhem may have made a difference perhaps, so I think I will go for an Airborne type carrier look. Might probably work on a Jeep as well. But don't have one of those spare.

Looking good! Nice touch with the sloped-top stowage bins in the BBDA

It's looking good! I like both RCLs. Are you going to add a Bren for spotting?

Ok, I am supposed to be doing the Fairey III build. I got sidetracked on this Carrier build

Detailed up the RCL mount, only the sights to go. Tracks are remainders of resin IMA and Resicast castings. Fiddly, but better than Tamiya tracks.

backish view. decide to stick a folding step on the back for the loader to be at a decent height. There is no way you are lumping a 95mm RCL cartridge leaning back and around from the interior. Besides after you fire these things you do not stick around to admire your handiwork, due to the very large "Look here I am !" cloud of smoke and dust. Reloading would be done in a more benign environment I would think.

topish view. Ammo racks. Settled on a small loadout due to size and probable role of shoot and scoot.

Half profile Frontal with some stowage

Inspiring.  Those little Bren/Universal carriers seem perfect for a WhIf starting point.  I'll have to add a couple to the collection.

that'll do.
Tidied up a bit and threw on some paint.
Not too weathered, sort of pre-operations fitout.

Impressive!  Also very well thought out on stowage and fittings.

Indeed. Not too fussy and with subtle weathering. Looks exactly as you said: "pre-operations fitout."
