Now what did he use for a fuselage ---  ???

EDIT (later): Couldn't find his thread on the What-If forum but found something on the Secret Projects one.

He used an E3 fuselage and then built it out with styrene strips  :-\ he had to add nearly 1/2" to the diameter ---  it must weigh a ton --

I found the photos in the 2008 Whiffies awards thread (by chance).  I could find a build thread.  I've no idea what he used but it seems to have worked.

I PM'd him and he replied to where his build is on the What-If, he called it a Handley Page Harrowgate

Has anyone done any scale-o-rama-ing of the wings from either the 1/96 Lindberg or the 1/144 Great Wall kits to built a 1/72 fighter?  Thx.

Yeah, Handley-Page did.  ;D

http://www.airwar.ru/enc/xplane/hp88.html

Well, yes the H.P. 88 wasn't a fighter, although it did use an Attacker fuselage and the wings/tail were 40% of full-size rather
than the 50% of a 1/144 to 1/72 scale-o-rama or the 75% of 1/96 to 1/72.

Some interesting (I hope) bits and pieces related to the Victor:

Proposed crew escape capsule:

Wing bomb containers (note there were proposals for containers under the engines and in the same place as the B.2's fuel pods):

In the late 1950s, Handley-Page put forward a proposal to increase the installed thrust (and hence MTOW) in Victor B.Mk1/1A by adding two booster turbojets in over wing nacelles with intake-doors, to be used for take-off and initial climb. Bristol Orpheus, Rolls-Royce RB-162 and Armstrong-Siddeley Viper were considered:

Finally, I did find the following intriguing comment in the Ministry of Supply's Specification (No. B. 128 P - reprint from 1 Sep 1954 incorporating amendment 1 - 6):

                "Tail Armament

                     4.07  Deleted by Amendment No.4."

I wonder - did the original specifications (at least up to Amendment No.4), include a tail gun?

That has to be in the latest edition Carl, those particular drawings are not in the issue I have. But there is a small 3-view of it on page 48.

Finsrin originally posted this idea in February 2015.  Now that I ready to donate my Matchbox K.2 version, I started with a 2D representation.

This design is predicated on the following alt-history events and aircraft design principles.

Alt-history
  • DH Comet late or non-existent
  • B707  late or non-existent
  • Avro Jetliner late or non-existent
Design principles
  • BFA - Brute Force Aerodynamics
  • BFE - Big Friggen' Engines
  • BFW - Big Friggen' wings
  • TAC - T-tails are the coolest
  • YCNHTMF -  You Can Never Have Too Much Fuel
Wings may not be to scale but are very close.

With the above alt-history conditions HP saw an opportunity to build a long-range pressurized passenger aircraft for the commercial market and the RAF.

Using the proven pressurized fuselage design of the B-29/B377 family and the wings from Victor V-bomber, HP was able to quickly put together (some say slapped) a reliable and comfortable (maybe not) ride to most continents. The wing tip tank (not shown) and optional oversized fuel tanks gave the Hyperion C.1 a range of over 10,000 Miles. Speed was not a critical design requirement. After all the cargo, I mean passengers, had no say in the matter.

This design is similar to the HP.80, HP.96 and HP.97

Very nice! And for the Hyperion C.1A, an additional design principle: LFER (Lengthy Fuselage Extensions Rock!)

Passenger versions of H.P. Victor, militar and civil.

Note that this would be an almost global range liner.
