Gee-Bee Z-zwilling
« on: February 19, 2018, 01:59:29 AM »
My MiG-3 vacform is not finished but I am already starting the next one (from my mother gift for my birthday, December 27th). From 2 Gee-Bees, I will make one double plane, deserving better the code Z for Zwilling.

This is a A-model 1/72, injected plastic.
A racer would have a single pilot, 2 engines, 2 spats only and maybe only 2 tailplanes, but mine will not be a racer, just fantasy: 2 cockpit, a single asymmetric engine, 4 spats...

This one looks like it's going to be fun to watch.

The Gee Bee is perfect for "the treatment" and I'm looking forward to seeing how your turns out!

Cool idea, one to watch.
If I don't plan it, it can't go wrong!

If it's great, I did it. If it's naff, I found it.

Fortunately, the computer is in the warm part of my home, and even if I have not yet access to the workbench, I can dream of the project (with my Photopaint software):
1/ The possible zwilling racer that would win:

Well, a few hours without coughing (I thought I was cured, before it starts again...), and sun light a little (like a warm summer day...), I took the opportunity to spend almost one hour on the workbench, and the project went on:

PS. The project is now a biplane (or sesquiplane), with asymmetric tail: half-T.

The port fuselage is taking shape, after the first sanding:

Now the asymmetric sesquiplane is almost finished (minus the best part: spats!)

You certainly have an eye for the "best parts" mon ami!

I really like that T tail and the sesquiplane layout makes me think of some of those Russian designs.

Thanks for the update. It looks like you're in the home-stretch, Tophe!

Now the model (to be painted) is standing on all its legs! In French, we say this is "pants" landing gear (spats), is this the same in English?

Wow is this ever coming together nicely, mon ami!

I really like the color you used on the under side.

In English, at least the U.S. version, spats cover both the tear-drop shaped variety and the "pants" or trousered type, like on a Northrop Gamma.

I hope this helps and it looks like you're very close to finishing up yet another delightful marvel!

Your perseverance inspires me, Tophe!

I think this might be one of my favorites of yours yet. Wonder why?

This could be an opportunity to putty over some of those gaps in the nose unless of course, they're intended or you've run out of putty.

It'll be a treat to see this one fly across the finish line!

I have the 4 angles that I want as acceptable, I don't care of the underside, I tell my family "don't touch, very fragile" so no fear that it will be turned in all directions to see the defaults... (in the 1990s, I was seeking for perfection, never finishing anything...).

If you're well pleased that's what matters, Tophe! I am delighted with the result!

Looks great and I really like how the overall color sets off those tinted canopies as well as the unique layout.

Oh and those lovely spats, all four of them!

Thanks!

It was not well shown on the views before, but there are wheels/tyres Inside these spats, look at the picture below.
I don't know why the flash creates grey reflects, this is not awful painting (I have checked and this is all sky blue visually - except tyres)

And do you know what is the technical justification of those 4 spats? ???
Uh? The answer is: fantasy! ;)

PS. I have 2 sets of decals, that I will not use, is someone interested? interested ones could send me a PM, I will send them for free (this is better than throwing in the garbage can). But I cannot go to the post office this week, I could send next week.
