Scott Crossfield, Robert White and Neil Armstrong with a pair of X-15 rocket planes at Edwards AFB.

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

Why is Armstrong wearing brown shoes? ???

Aren't brown shoes a USN aviator thing?

“Brown Shoe” is a slang term for an aviator. Traditionally, Naval aviators wear brown boots with their flight suits and brown dress shoes with their service khaki uniforms.

Armstrong's call-up from the Navy arrived on January 26, 1949. He remained in the reserve for eight years, before resigning his commission on October 21, 1960.

I guess pilots wearing brown shoes flew better than those wearing Air Force black?   8)

Turnover of the X-15 with the powerful new engine (XLR-99) from contractor to customer is symbolized by Scott Crossfield, North American X-15 test pilot, as he hands over the 'keys' to the rocket airplane to USAF Major Robert White, and NASA's Neil Armstrong.

The Canadair CL-66 was a turboprop version of the civilian Convair CV-440 Metropolitan. The CC-109 Cosmopolitan or "Cosmo" in RCAF service became the standard VIP aircraft as well as replacing the Douglas Dakota and the North American B-25 Mitchell in light transport duties. After a lengthy career stretching into the 1990s, the CC-109 was replaced by the CC-142 Dash 8 and CC-144 Challenger.

Omega’s KC-707s are now certified to refuel the F-35B/C! Our entire fleet now stands ready to support this state-of-the-art aircraft. Check out these great shots from our inaugural KC-707 mission with the F-35. (Photo credit: US Navy).
