Why the two islands?

Why the two islands?

If I recall correctly, during wind-tunnel* testing the initial design, with a single island, created excessive turbulence over the flight deck, subsequent testing showed reduced turbulence with a twin superstructure layout.

[*: It may have been computer modelling, rather than physical testing.]
"This is the Captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and, ah, explode."

Why the two islands?

One is for navigation and ship's operations and the other for flight control and aerial operations. The islands can take on each other's function if one is incapacitated.  See below for more details:

Well another Bucc in 1/48 that is an interesting choice.

Although I wonder how Trumpeter can manage to over-complicate this kit.
I think luckily for me.. my 1/48 Bucc days are past as the current builds have not seen daylight for a number of years, so this is a big Phew ! not for me.  :D

The new Airfix Bucc for me - it's a big improvement over their original release from years ago.

Looks like Trumpeter are going big this year with announcements of an Avro Vulcan in 1/48 and Messerschmitt Me-323 in 1/35!

Me-323 will be massive, at 1/35 scale the model will have a wing span of 1.57m. You'd need an entire room to display it, but you could also use it as storage for several 1/35 trucks tho...
