Sgt. Petrie of the RCMP

 This one's for Al.

The Royal Canadian Monster Police was formed in 1956, in the wake of the unexpected fallout1 from the US's ill advised "Operation Experiment", which detonated a series of medium yield hydrogen devices between 1952 and 1954. The resultant thawing of large numbers of prehistoric creatures (Well documented in films like "The Beast" and "The Jelly"2 would created biological disasters throughout the Northwest, from Anchorage to Winnipeg. The St. Laurent government, initially wary of involvement with the notorious University of Science of the Southern Arctic3, would eventually collaborate to create the Petrie class of Anthropic Restrainment Machine4 for the newest branch of Canadian Law Enforcement. Standing 25 meters tall, the "Metal Mounties" as the press quickly dubbed them, could fell a Rhedosaurus with a single blow from their 'rocket fists'.

More history as the work progresses. This dated and toy-like model of the Mach Baron robot (A show akin to Johnny Sokko and His Giant Robot, Space Giants and Ultraman) has been in my stash for ages-and inspiration struck. (Hey, it's molded in bright red.)

The biggest hurdles would be adding an appropriate 'skirt' below the waist to emulate the traditional Mountie's coat, and of course, the hat-

Which I'm pleased to say have both come out rather well. I may be getting a handle on this whole scratch building business.

1. Although all but the first test were underground, no one had reckoned with the vaporization of enormous quantities of ice, creating
radioactive rain and snow across Northern Canada for most of the decade.
2. Released in the US as "THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS" and "THE BLOB"
3. Founded in 1901 somewhere north of Lake Iliamna in central Alaska by Stanislav Nemo (Yes, that Nemo), Dean Otto Mann (The name and title taken by the creation of Viktor Frankenstein after a century of musing) and Wen Yo, the USSA continues the tradition of "Let's See what happens!" that has made Western Science what it is today.
4. Named for Albertandvictoria Petrie, one of the most famous RCMP officers in Canadian history. Abandoned as an orphan, Petrie was raised in Yellowknife by a single Widowed Sasquatch with a peculiar fascination with the British Royal family. His exploits can still be found littering second-hand bookshops all around the world.

That robo-adversary is looking a wee bit uncertain about his odds. Wait till he sees Sgt. Petrie in his red serge!  :o

Hmm, Google A.I says there is no such things as a "RollerCan Canadian Defense Robot" -- where's the video hiding ?

Google AI hates me because of my long friendship with Colossus. The video is posted on the first page of the inspiration thread for this GB, right below MAT's post asking about Canadian=built aircraft. And I misspelled the name; it's Roller-TAN, not Roller Can.
In any case- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHijAaBJCTI&t=33s

After the initial memorandum of collaboration, work proceeded rapidly, and the first "Iron Mountie" entered service in February 1958. Recognizing that not all aberrant law enforcement issues actually required a giant mechanical lawman, the ARMs were equipped with a garage in each foot to transport a patrol group of flesh and blood Mounties and their all terrain vehicles1 to deal with things like Hockey riots and rowdy mutants at the Calgary Stampede. The barracks for the troop of six was located in the lower torso. Perhaps the most noted actions by either the Armed forces Roller Tan or the dozen ARMs of the RCMP were against the mechanical terrors created by the mysterious Super Criminal, The Lobster. (Later revealed to be a "biological masquerade" of the notorious Dr. Yo2)

Quote
I am still asked occasionally if I regret my involvement in creating the Canadian robots that would thwart my efforts to steal the Gastown Steam clock, the Contents of the Hockey Hall of Fame, or the entire Maple syrup reserve for 1963. The answer is no-it was all part of the ongoing experiment in manipulating funding. I realized as early as 1952 that the post-war population boom would produce both a sizeable increase in middle-class wealth, and that in turn would lead to a lot of middle-class children getting more than just an apple and a pair of socks for Christmas. I encouraged the University Board to invest heavily in animation studios as well, and as a result, somewhere between nine and eleven cents of every dollar made by Mattel, Hasbro, Ideal, Marx and a dozen other manufacturers went straight into the USSA's coffers.

 And here's the finish-

More photos in the completion thread. Thanks for looking!

1 Originally Land Rovers, they were upgraded to license-built HummVees in the late 1980s.

2 Gunned down by the Soviet Gorilla Man Grigory Kongevich at the end of the Secret World War (1947-1958), Dr. Yo's subordinates transplanted his still living brain onto the body of an extraterrestrial transdimensional  Arthropodic entity called a Mi-go while his badly damaged body recuperated. Yo adopted the identity of "The Lobster" and raided banks, Art Museums, and bakeries up and down the Eastern and Western seaboard of North America from 1959 to 1963, when he reappeared as himself and founded the Sekrit Yo Navy.

This is great! I love the foot garages. The Roller Tan video was hilarious - I think Sgt. Petrie could be friends with him.

Oh! Bravo, Doctor! Bravo!  :icon_alabanza:

I can see Sgt Petrie & his comrades in their current role - patrolling Canada's southern border, apparently to prevent illegal Americans coming North, especially across Lake Ontario.  :icon_meditation:

Beautifully done Doc

You see how the RCMP was trying to adjust for this new technology. Obviously, "flesh and blood Mounties" would indeed be needed for the more contentious hockey games (since only humans would be able to distinguish between a regular match and a riot).

But for "rowdy mutants at the Calgary Stampede" ... yeah, eventually, RCMP National Headquarters were going to figure out that the full, rocket-fisted might of the Royal Canadian Monster Police would be required!

... especially across Lake Ontario.

Sorry, what are you referring to Guy? I checked Google Maps™ and couldn't find anything called "Lake Ontario"  ;)
