THE UNITED STATES OF CANADA
« on: August 23, 2026, 02:38:08 PM »
In 1790 an independent Federal Republic of Canada is established. The charter was signed by seven original states in Quebec City. The founding states are Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, and Labrador. This groundbreaking alliance broke free from the British control and laid out a new direction for the North American continent.
The governing system included a balance of powers between the central parliament and the regional states. Ontario and Quebec served as an industrial and agricultural core along the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River. The maritime states of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island bring a considerable political weight with a naval and shipping agreement.
Newfoundland and Labrador to the north-eastern part of Canada added fishing industry and strategically placed ports to the federal states. The difficult lifestyle of these coastal territories made the leaders self-reliant and tough political figures, advocating for a strong naval defence and unrestricted trade with Europe.

The war of 1811
In 1811, the young United States declared war on the newly formed Canadian Federal Republic. Washington sought to stop Canada’s rapid westward expansion across the continent. American leaders feared a powerful northern neighbour would endanger its own expansion plans.
President James Madison sent troops across the snowy border in the winter of 1812. The Canadian federal army and the militia, seasoned by years of uneasy peace and united under a federal council in Ottawa, met the invaders at Detroit and Montreal. Instead of a quick American victory, the Canadian citizen and soldiers hold their ground.
By 1814, Canadian forces had pushed deep into the Ohio Valley and seized key strategic ports along the Great Lakes. A brilliant naval counter-offensive broke the American blockade. Facing economic collapse and military exhaustion, Washington sued for peace under harsh northern terms.
The resulting Treaty of Detroit redrew the map of North America. The Canadian Republic emerged triumphant, securing undisputed control over all territory north of  the 40th parallel.

Us turns south, slavery and the US-Canadian war of 1860-1865
Blocked from expanding northward by the Treaty of Detroit, the United States pivoted its ambitions toward the tropics to fulfil its destiny. Throughout the 1820s and 1830s, American plantation owners and military expeditions aggressively annexed the Caribbean islands and conquered Central America. Instead of fading, chattel slavery was aggressively reinforced, expanding into these newly acquired equatorial territories. The vast sugar, coffee, and cotton plantations of this tropical empire turned slavery into the undisputed economic backbone of the entire United States.
To the north, the Canadian Federal Republic took a starkly different moral and economic path. Grounded in abolitionist principles, Canada officially banned the slave trade and became a fierce opponent of the southern regime. Ottawa established an open-door policy and actively financed a network of safe houses  the Underground Railroad, harbouring hundreds of thousands of runaway slaves. This state-sponsored escape network severely disrupted the American workforce, creating bitter, decades-long diplomatic hostility between the two neighbours.
The cold peace shattered in 1860 when the United States launched a massive pre-emptive invasion to crush the Canadian republic and reclaim its human "property." For five brutal years, the US-Canada War raged across the Great Lakes and the Ohio Valley. While the Americans possessed greater raw numbers, the Canadians weaponized their inhospitable winters and held highly fortified defensive lines. Canada also secured a strategic alliance with the British Empire, whose powerful navy imposed a devastating total economic blockade on American ports.
By 1865, the exhausted and bankrupt United States collapsed under the weight of the two-front war. Canadian troops marched into Washington, forcing a decisive peace treaty that dismantled the American empire. Under the terms of the surrender, the United States was stripped of its imperial holdings, resulting in the immediate emancipation and independence of all Caribbean and Central American colonies. The defeated nation was left trapped between a triumphant, massive Canadian power to the north and a ring of newly liberated republics to the south.

Late 19th century
Following the catastrophic defeat of 1865, the United States fundamentally reorganized its political structure to prevent total collapse. The traumatic loss stripped Washington of its central authority, giving rise to a highly decentralized union with massive state autonomy. Individual states assumed the primary responsibilities of governance, legal jurisdiction, and local defence, operating more like a loose confederation than a singular country. This structural shift successfully pacified regional resentment and allowed the fractured nation to rebuild on its own local terms.
Forced to abandon its dreams of territorial conquest, the new American republic pivoted toward internal economic transformation. Without the institution of slavery, the nation built a highly diversified and balanced economic model. The mid-Atlantic states rapidly industrialized, constructing advanced manufacturing hubs, while the southern territories transitioned into a system of mainly mechanized agriculture. Simultaneously, vast merchant fleets emerged from bustling coastal cities, establishing a lucrative global network of maritime commerce that revitalized American wealth.
To the north, the triumphant Canadian Federal Republic showed no signs of slowing its geopolitical momentum. With its southern border securely stabilized and its abolitionist mission completed, Ottawa aggressively looked toward the West. Canadian pioneers and steel railways pushed rapidly across the Great Plains and through the Rocky Mountains, quickly securing a massive, undisputed coastline along the Pacific Ocean. This continental expansion turned Canada into a dominant, two-ocean superpower, commanding vast trade routes that connected Europe directly to the Asian markets.
Canada’s westward momentum eventually spilled off the continental mainland and into the open ocean. Utilizing its powerful new Pacific ports, the Canadian republic launched an era of overseas naval expansion, systematically acquiring several strategic Pacific archipelagos. These tropical islands served as vital coaling stations, commercial outposts, and naval bases for Ottawa's growing global fleet. By the late 19th century, the North American balance of power had completely inverted, leaving a decentralized, commerce-focused United States living in the shadow of a vast, oceanic Canadian Empire.

The Pacific empire
Canada’s maritime expansion into the Pacific focused on three strategic archipelagos, each transforming the republic into a global naval powerhouse.
First, Ottawa secured the Hawaiian Islands through a mix of trade treaties and naval diplomacy. The archipelago became the Crown Jewel of Canada's Pacific fleet, serving as the central hub for trans-Pacific shipping lanes. Canadian merchants transformed Honolulu into a bustling port, linking the timber and mineral wealth of Columbia directly with East Asian markets.
Further south, Canada established a protectorate over the Samoan Islands. Canada easily outmanoeuvred Britain and Germany to claim sole possession of the islands. The deep-water Harbor of Pago-Pago was rapidly fortified by the Canadian Navy, giving Ottawa a vital military checkpoint to monitor trade routes heading toward Australia and New Zealand.
Finally, Canada acquired the Fiji Islands to solidify its economic footprint in the South Pacific. The Canadian government utilized Fiji’s vast agricultural potential to establish a highly profitable, free-labor sugar and tropical fruit industry. This acquisition also provided the republic with a crucial stepping stone for telegraph cables, creating an uninterrupted communication line from Vancouver to the southern hemisphere.

The north reaches
Between 1850 and 1890, the Canadian Federal Republic launched an aggressive northern campaign to secure and consolidate its absolute dominion over the Arctic. Driven by fears of European encroachment and the desire to control potential northern trade routes, Ottawa established a network of permanent scientific outposts, weather stations, and specialized naval patrols across the icy frontier. By forging strategic, cooperative treaties with the indigenous Inuit nations—treating them as autonomous partners rather than conquered subjects—Canada successfully mapped the treacherous Northwest Passage and asserted unchallenged sovereignty over the vast polar archipelago.
This Arctic consolidation fundamentally altered Canada's geopolitical identity, transforming the republic into a truly multi-ocean empire stretching from the Atlantic and Pacific to the frozen north. The region quickly evolved from a barren wilderness into an economic and strategic asset, as Ottawa regulated the lucrative northern whaling fleets, mapped rich mineral deposits, and established fortified deep-water harbours. By 1890, Canada’s undisputed control over the global Arctic circle cemented its status as the premier northern superpower, creating an unassailable shield above its vast continental and Pacific holdings.

The Alaskan campaign
In 1880, mounting friction over border definitions and rich coastal fishing waters ignited a brief but decisive war between Canada and the Russian Empire over Alaska. Leveraging its newly consolidated Arctic infrastructure and powerful Pacific fleet, the Canadian Federal Republic launched a swift, coordinated two-front invasion. While Canadian naval squadrons blockaded the isolated Russian outposts from the south, elite cold-weather infantry divisions advanced overland from the Yukon territory, quickly overwhelming the under-supplied and heavily outnumbered Russian garrisons.
The conflict ended within a few months, forcing St. Petersburg to cede the entire Alaskan territory to Ottawa in the Treaty of Sitka. This strategic victory completely eliminated European colonial presence from the North American mainland and unified the continent’s entire north-western coastline under the Canadian flag. With Alaska integrated into the republic, Canada secured total dominance over the Bering Strait, locking down the western gateway to the Arctic and adding vast, untapped gold and oil reserves to its growing global empire.

Into the 20th century
In 1899, the structural strains of the lost Alaskan war, combined with decades of internal civil unrest, finally shattered the Russian Empire. A massive, coordinated revolution overthrew the Romanov dynasty, resulting in the immediate collapse of the imperial state. The newly installed Russian Republic took a radical diplomatic turn, officially granting full independence to many of its conquered peripheral European regions, including Poland, Finland and the Baltic states. This sudden dismantling of the old empire left a streamlined state focused entirely on domestic modernization, permanently altering the European balance of power.
Meanwhile, Canada entered the 20th century as a colossal, multi-ocean superpower, directly rivalling the global hegemony of the British Empire. Controlling everything north of the American 40th parallel, commanding vital Pacific archipelagos, and holding total dominion over the Arctic and Alaska, the Canadian Federal Republic possessed unmatched geopolitical leverage. Canada had an economy fuelled by booming maritime commerce, advanced industrial hubs, and vast natural resources. The mighty republic stood as an equal titan on the world stage to Britain, setting the stage for a new century of global competition.
