The Addams Family goes to the beach

Are those flags double-red over black or double-red over purple? And, if the former, what does the black flag mean?   

(I had to read the sign to know what the others meant - don't have that system down here.  )

Double red means severe hazard, beach closed. The bottom is supposed to be purple but the “violet” paint I had thought otherwise. Purple means an hazard like jellyfish or sharks. Which is why Pugsley and Wednesday were so disappointed. They were hoping for sharks.

I got the very tip of a Portuguese Man O' War streamer stuck to my leg (about a thumb length), when I was in my teens. The pain was excruciating and it left a mark that took a couple of months to fade. Sharks can cause a lot of damage, but jellyfish are extended torture.
