Westland Scout AH.1 XP890 1-72scale Airfix Kit 01042-7

I 'spose it's about time I post something I've cobbled together. Not a Whiff yet, they are still slowly progressing along my glacial build rate with other scale subjects.
This was meant to be built under strict OOB rules but the number of problems encountered put an end to that plan. This one took almost four years, lotsa problems with short shots etc. Glad this one is finished.
Westland Scout AH.1 XP890 AAC 1965, Airfix blister pack kit No.01042-7 from 1973/74 built 27May2020 - 09Jan2024.
Painted with a mix of Airfix, Humbrol, Tamiya and Gunze paints and finishes. Weathered with oils, pastel chalks.
Not my best work all, almost ended up binned once or twice. At least I got both rotors rotating freely, it's finished, and it looks like a Scout. I do have a few more in the stash, but I think I'll let the "experience" with this fade a bit before I grab another one out. The next versions will be an RAN Scout, an RN Wasp and finally an AH1. in green and black with missiles etc.

Looks like a silk purse from a sow’s ear to me. Nice job!

Thank you for the great comments!!!

Yes Wombat "I" is aspirating, it's just too hard to hobby with a tiny budget, dwindling stocks of consumables, no time due to work (or being completely buggered from work) Family commitments and stuff. Plus health issues that have a tendency to get in the way. So I don't really have that much to say when I have a look on the site. I only have time for a quick perouse of the threads I'm interested in.

The Scout is most definitely a case of "pigs ear to silk purse -ish" as the moldings were not the best (probably a Friday manufacture) with short shots (especially the main canopy), skew-iff centres and misaligned (joggled) components. During assembly I had to get creative just to progress the model not to mention I was attempting a purely OOB build, obviously this did not quite work out. One of the main things I really had to scratch/modify were the Main Rotor mast, the Main Rotor Gearbox, Tail Rotor bearings and shaft. The main canopy was short shot just under a mill at the base of the windscreen and lots along the trailing edge requiring some "inventive" fixes that did not quite work out but "Oh Well . . ."

Anyhow, it looks like a Scout, best I can say for my eighth (?) build of this kit (two previous for myself, no survivors).
Thanks again  :icon_beer:

Good work on an old and somewhat fiddly kit. It still looks to come up well.
Oh.. and welcome back

Apologies for using Google Drive, I don't have the funds to pay for expensive hosting, I hope you'll understand.

If you want to try a free storage that can do direct links to forums, you might think about Dropbox. I tried it out after I shutdown the Club website I was managing, where my photos where stored. Albeit, I have chosen to go down the paid path at the moment, it dows come with a free 2GB (which for photos is a lot, especially if you drop the resolution, using any of the number of free tools) of storage.

Getting the files to link requires changing a bit in the file link to make it display, which I do with search/replace in notepad.
Happy to help more if you need, just drop a PM.

Looks very good, I've given up on those poor early Airfix kits.

I'm sure they were fitted with guns & rockets at some time ;)

Wow! That's an impressive result, especially considering the randomly-helicopterish source!
