Boeing 377
« on: August 08, 2020, 10:38:11 AM »
This ones a bit of a cheat. I did my first version of the Boeing 377 as soon as Brian had unveiled it. I mean, who could resist? A scale-o-rama airliner based on a Hawker Sea Hawk was twistedly brilliant even by BdB standards!

Even back then, the B377 cried out for TCA markings. So, here it is, at long last, the Trans-Canada Air Lines Basher 377.

Hmmm...a 1/48 Sea Hawk rescaled to 1/144 would result in a plane that had a length and wingspan in real life of 36.27m and 25.67m respectively.  When compared to other early jet airliners, we see a favourable comparison:

Avro C102 Jetliner
Length: 25.12 m
Wingspan: 29.90 m

de Havilland Comet 1
Length: 28 m
Wingspan: 35 m

Therefore having the Rescaled Sea Hawk does provide a very credible airline basis.  Whilst Brian originally did it as a Boeing platform, I think having it as a Hawker early competitor to the Comet but more aligned with the C102 would also provide a very credible story.

Ha !!  was thinking something along the same lines . . . a Trident nose (it's a little bit later, I know), and how about the larger rudder fitted to German Sea Hawks . . . ? In BEA 'Red Square' livery.

cheers,
Robin.

Thanks for doing the scale-o-rama conversions Greg  I like the idea of a Hawker-Siddelely rival to (and, I guess, ultimately a replacement for) the Avro Canada Jetliner.
