A thread for early jets designs such as the Avro Jetliner, the Sud-Ouest SO.30 Bellatrix, Fokker F26 and others





Sud-Ouest SO.30 Bellatrix jet (Nene powered?)

From Secret Projects:

SO 30N     Bellatrix twin-engined mid-wing transport with Gnome & Rhône 14N-49 engines, formerly known as as the Bloch MB 1030 (1 built)
SO 30R     Bellatrix variant with Gnome & Rhône 14R-5 engines (2 built)
SO 30P.1  Bretagne, production version with Pratt & Whitney R-2800-B43 engines (30 built)
SO 30P.2  Bretagne, production version with Pratt & Whitney R-2800-CA13 engines (10 built)
SO 30C    Twin-engined cargo transport (1 built)
SO 30      "Nene" experimental twin-jet variant (1 built)
SO 30      "Atar" experimental twin-jet variant (1 conversion)
SO 31P    Planned variant   
SO 33      Planned high-wing, single-fin variant (not built)

This is interesting. Lots of whiffing choices. DC-3 with Jumo engines 737 style? With a fuel hose reaching the ground!

Exactly. Lots of potential to convert from piston to jet powered. 

Avro Tudor 8 with 4 Nene engines.

Every time I look t some of these early jet conversions I imagine a Jet powered DC-3/C-47.

That could work.  I might consider an in font/overwing fitment though so as to keep the modification minor.
