1/72 Armstrong Whitworth A.W. 43 Atlantis MK.I
« on: July 13, 2016, 12:46:21 AM »
Here is the "first" AW aircraft built after 1939.

This is the AW-43 Atlantis Mk.I. It was designed as a naval scout and light bomber for the FAA.

Some of the aircraft were captured by the Vichy French, survived the war, refurbished and added to the Royal Thai Air Force inventory and were deployed to south east Asia alongside the Curtis Helldiver.

As stated earliest these aircraft never won a beauty contest but they got the job done.

Messers Armstrong and Whitworth had the following motto written on the factory walls:

Build them right!
Build them solid!
Build them with pride!

And if necessary, build them ugly!

This is a rescue build of a started Revell Fulmar. I make it a habit not to mix recessed panel lines with raised details but this time I made an exception.

The Bill of Materials:
Revell Fulmar
Academy Typhoon engine and propeller from another failed project
Airfix Avenger tail
Rockets from the spares box
Antenna is thin wire
Decals from Print Scale F8F and spares

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

Thanks Robert et al. It sits a bit too far back but I wanted to use it so this was the best compromise I could come up with.

Looks great with that all blue scheme and Thai markings!

That Typhoon engine really streamlines things nicely.
