Brandendurg 'DD' - A One Wing Biplane Flying Boat . . .
« on: February 05, 2025, 05:50:10 AM »
This is another Build inspired by spare parts from another kit, in this case the seaplane floats from the Glencoe 1/77 Curtiss Condor kit.
I've long been fascinated by the Great War fighter flying boats, so when I saw the floats from the aforementioned kit, being the straight sided Edo type, and knowing that I had several sets of Fokker D.VII parts, plus engines and propellers, I decided to build a Great War fighter flying boat model.
I chose to build a 'Brandendurg DD' as a what-If follow on to the real world Brandendurg CC, between that and the real world follow on W-series. Also the colour scheme is clear doped linen and natural wood, with Eisenkreuz markings.
Okay, let's make a start . . .
Here are the float halves, to make the hull,

and glued together, top view,

and the bottom. The white spot is some putty, to fill a sink mark.

This the wing I will use. It was originally the wing of a OWB Fokker D.VII, one of the fisrt One Wing Biplanes I built. When my skills and techniques had improved, I built another D.VII, and scrapped and recycled the older one, hence the cutouts.

And now the tail surfaces. These are new ones, first fresh off the runner,

and trimmed to size, and then joined.

That's All For Now, Stay Tuned . . .

cheers,
Robin.

Ok, this is sounding great. Sort of a float with wings type setup, of which there were a few. I like the concept

Okay . . .
So I've not been idle during my enforced absence, most of the assembly work on this model is done.
I first finished the hull, I drilled out the cockpit, and added a mount for the the tail surfaces.

This is the engine I'm using,

There is no lower crankcase, or nose bearing housing. I added a bearing housing from a piece of runner.

Here are the engine, lower engine, and pylon.

I've since replaced the lower engine part with a more rounded version, and here are those parts assembled. Rather than shape the pylon to fit over the wing, I split the wing in two, and fitted the pylon between them. I also made a radiator from a piece of a scrap 3-D print I never used.

I will be re-using a propeller I salvaged from another model. It will be re-painted before being used.

That's All For Now, Stay Tuned . . .

cheers,
Robin.

Okay . . . .
So, despite my current 'Other duties', I've still managed to make some progress on this Build.
Here are the main parts of the model, ready to be joined together.

More when it happens . . .

Thanks, Gents . . .  :-[ :D
Glad you approve. With my last few Builds, I've been trying to keep things simple, and also not worry too much about any little imperfections that may occur. It's been a lot less stressful . . .

cheers,
Robin.
