Sell 'em off as COIN aircraft to places that bought other British pop-jobs: Iraq, India, (or more of a stretch) Oman?

A couple of pics of my Python test bed Lanc' and the nacelle would have been all engine, there's no room for a cockpit in there

Yes Greg, Aeroclub Wyvern props (1/72) and Lanc' paddle blades (which the FTB used apparently). I've got a photo of the RW set up somewhere on the computer but do you think I can find it --- :-X

D'oh! just found it --

No I haven't -- that's not it installed in the Lanc'   :icon_bofh:

I wonder how all those might go for a 1/48 application - the Wyvern hub was quite large after all...

Trumpeter do a 1/48 Wyvern, and when I started my FTB I found that the Sea Fury cowling is a very close match in size  to do the early air intake version for the Wyvern.  IIRC, I used an Attacker rear fuselage for the rear end of the nacelle (or possibly the Hawk Swift kit, one or the other)

I've been thinking how you could adapt this to a twin engine Wyvern (or something a bit bigger) but as with my comment on putting a cockpit in there like your 'forward cockpit' idea, there's no room for a wheel bay.  My thoughts would be to do it very much like the Dart Herald set-up, that has the air intake on one side of the nacelle with the wheel bay directly behind the air intake, it looks offset when you view it head on.

One Wyvern was fitted with the RR Clyde, now with this engine you could put a forward cockpit as just aft of the first compressor stage, the engine got quite thin in section

Yeah was aware of that - I should probably have been clearer:  I was looking at the metal aero club props for use on various 1/48 projects as contra props.

FYI, the props are 2 1/8" in diameter

How about a Wyvern with a guy in back?  Set up with the additional crew located in fuselage behind the pilot similar to the specialized night attack and electronic countermeasures platforms based on the Skyraider.

Wyvern engine installation mated to a XP-81 airframe?  A "Heavy Wyvern" similar to teh XA2D Skyshark?

I like that idea, would you still use the jet engine in the rear ?  Would there be enough room for the nose wheel bay though, considering the size of a Python ?

Any suggestions on doing a 1/48 Wyvern Mk1 with RR Eagle Piston Engine?

I quite like the look of this. Combined with tiptanks and perhaps a big radial I may have something....

Greg - any suggestions as to how I may achieve (something approaching) this canopy with the Trumpy 1/72 kit?

The piston powered ones look much better in my eyes. Is it just me or is the cockpit raised more in the later models?
- Could a fuselage back with straighter lines be grafted onto a wyvern?
- Put a BIG radial engine on it?

My one that's just arrived is earmarked for a more standard layout, but someone has to do this!

What're everyone's views on a radial-engined Wyvern, say with an R-3350 or - goodness - an R4360 up front, with standard prop? On paper the Skyraider has less HP but the airframe is bigger, so perhaps its engine could work well in the Wyvern? I envisage a re-engined Wyvern as being a real mud-mover, so the greater speed offered by the Python wouldn't be needed.

A "Centaurus Major" perhaps?  A four-row engine using essentially the cylinders from two Centaurus engines much as the Wasp Major (R4360) used R2800 cylinders.
