Shturmovik for the 80's
« on: April 02, 2015, 12:00:50 PM »
Ok. Here goes. This is what I'm starting with. An old KP kit of the IL-10/B-33 kit. Old is right. I think the real A/C was still flying when this kit was made.

Hope to start cutting plastic tomorrow.

80's update of IL-10,,,,   Hmmm interesting.
Pondering what I might do and coming up blank - so far.

Square off the tail surfaces and wing tips. Add a turbo prop engine with a four or five bladed prop.

I'm very interested in this one.  Love the ground-attack types and probably need to add a Shturmovik  to the stash at some point to go alongside my Frogfoot, A-10 and Stuka when they all get built.

Will be following to see what modifications are made.

Hmmm... modernish Shturmovik (maybe with turboprop) over Afghanistan in the '80s isn't so silly/

My original plan was a turboprop Schturmovik in 1980's Afghan AF marking. But since you guys have already guessed that, I may have to rethink my idea to something more original.

I'd still like to see your original idea in plastic, it just sounds so right.

I hope you mean just the markings. This needs to be built!

Been busy lately, but have had a little time to play. This is the IL-10 with a new turboprop nose in place. The nose is brass tube with a piece of old pen body that fit in it perfectly. Then a smaller piece of tube will fit in that to hold the prop. I have it held in place with some Apoxysculpt. I have a little work to do on the cockpit before putting the fuselage halves together.

Have you considered changing the shape of the canopy?
That photo and artwork of the Chinese version is tops!

Basic assembly is complete. Here are shots of its current status. You can see the new nose, the new exhaust on the right side of the nose and the scratch built cockpit interior. Basically the kit came with a couple so called "seats", so it needed something to fill up the space. Built with some styrene sheet and square rod. I have ejection seats to be installed in the cockpit later. PSR starts tomorrow.

:-* Very interesting project and very good start, thanks! :-* :-*
(When the final aspect will appear completely, I could try drawing similar P-51 and P-38, will there be a Copyright?) ;)

80's transformation is going well.  Interior treatment enhances "credibility" :)
