NATO,Nukes,and Nazis

From a board game in the 1990's

I have the original Tamiya leopard I in the stash. That would look good with an 88,circa 1948.

Interesting...even with a 105mm, a Leopard I in Nazi era scheme (say with Zimmerit and markings/colours such as below) would be interesting:

Did a couple of profiles of Leo 2s & Marders in WW2 markings back in the day.

Seems like a cool idea. I would be tempted to "tart up" the Leo 1 a bit to give it more of a WW2-inspired feel.
On the easier side, you could model the Dutch Leo 1s that were modified to (not really) resemble Panthers in the movie version of A Bridge Too Far.

If you wanted to do some more work, there's something along the lines of modeler Dieter Bihlmaier's E-55:

I really wish I could find a "how to" or WIP for this model.

The E-55 looks like an early Leo 1 with some WW2 German equipment replacing some of the Leo's kit.  Points I can see are:

Commander's Cupola
Exhausts
Track-links on the side of the turret
Tracks themselves
Roadwheels & Suspension
IR System in front of the Commander's Cupola
Bow MG
Tools and equipment on the hull sides
Lack of Skirts
Rangefinders added to the turret

I suspect the gun has also been changed.

Pics here: http://www.desura.com/groups/tanks/images/leopard-1a1 and here: http://www.santosplast.com.br/cont_art_walkarounds_militaria_leopard1a1eb.asp should help.

Reminds me of the film titled "Escape To Athena" (1979) with the secret Nazi missile base hidden in a monastery on an island in Greece.

Full movie with Greek subtitles:
