Imagine a submersible aircraft carrier with Skyhook launching Harriers from a deck well.

If you wanted to do a different looking A-10, say a RAF A-10, the below gives you a starting point:

Not a bad idea if you have to work with Navy or NATO refuelers. I would suggest tilting the probe slightly to one side so as not to interfere with aiming the gun.
Maybe also have something happen to cause the F-111 not go ahead. Maybe the problems that caused the first few to be lost in the RW are identified earlier thus eventually resulting in the fleet grounding earlier and thus a new platform being required. Or perhaps Martin bids in the original TFX competition - they didn't in the RW. It will be a Martin Marietta bid given Martin merged into this in 1961 , around when the TFX requirement was released. Will also need to address the TFX requirement for a common USAF/USN platform though.Perhaps have the TFX program die early, despite McNamara pushing it, say the evaluation of the RFI responses proved the desired objective was too expensive and uncertain of being met even if fully funded? That could allow both services to get what they really wanted, with the Eagle variant of Martin Marietta's B-68 going into production as the B-58B.
