Can anyone tell me what this antenna is just behind the canopy, the long black topped one. IIRC it's for navigation or something like that.
-
Probably the direction finding antenna.
-
Technically it’s a LT-6G “Mosquito” used in Korea in the FAC role so it might be specific to that. Will do some fur5her research for you once I get the motivation to get out of my hammock...

At first look I would go with direction finder. Perhaps a next generation from the “football” antenna.

Yes, ADF ... specifically, the base plate/mount and cover for the loop antenna AS313/ARN-6.
Edit: Ack! Jon posted a better answer while I was typing :o
The same type of ADF antennae were worn by some postwar RCAF Mustangs and Harvard Mk. 4s.
(Does anyone know what the blade antenna in front of the AS313 is?)

I'd suspect it might be for a radio set for the ground forces the LT-6G is providing FAC duties for, but that's only an educated guess.

Thanks Evan.
Here's another LT-6G photo with a different antennae set up - AS313/ARN-6 aft with an AN-104B VHF antenna forward (instead of that blade antenna). On page 149 of Dan Hagedorn's North American's T-6: A Definitive History of the World's Most Famous Trainer, a USAF markings diagram for the LT-6G is shown ... with AN-104B and ADF 'football'.
