Hi folks,
During the 1990s a German firm called Flug Werk produced about a dozen new-build Focke-Wulf Fw190s for warbird collectors and museums. We're lucky enough to have the prototype flying in NZ and appearing at airshows (though I still haven't managed to see it fly). One was based in France until it was forced to ditch in the sea in 2010 or so, it was sold to Germany and restored by the wizards at MeierMotors. Operated by Hangar10 at Usedom this aircraft - registered D-FWAA - was the star of a recent event held at their home base last month. There are several videos on YouTube showing Klaus Plasa displaying this aircraft and I recommend you take a look.
For my model of D-FWAA I used the Airfix Fw190 kit, what a delight it was! I made a couple of modifications to make it more resemble my subject (air intake above the cowl and oil cooler outlets on the wings) but it was otherwise OOB.

I'm now looking for an excuse to buy another Airfix 190 as this was such a fun kit.

So I have it straight: you got a regular Fw190 kit and modded it to look like one built with the Russian radial engine?

Exactly. You can't really tell but I also removed the cooling fan blades.

Hmm, wonder how good the Omega Models kit of a Fw190A fitted with a Soviet Asch-82 engine by the Red Air Force would do as a starting point? That's a beautiful model, Zac.

Sticking with your Flug Werk theme, how about D-FWMV with its highly-polished cowling?
Or, lose the cowling altogether to show off a resin Shvetsov ASh-82? Engines & Things have a 1/72nd ASh-82 in their 2019 catalogue (72059).

Evan - No, I just had a look and the Soviet one has different cowl set up - most of the Flug Werk machines have much more Fw190-looking cowls to maintain the illusion, but there is one that's been fitted with the power egg from (IIRC) a Tu-2.
apo - I've never cared for 'WMV in that scheme I'm afraid. In my opinion it looked much, much better when owned by Tom Blair and not flown in the UK as G-FWAB.

I can easily see why that scheme may not appeal ... but that highly-polished cowl certainly sets it apart.
