Title: Tactical transport variants of regional airliners and other types
Post by: Volkodav on April 02, 2017, 11:48:02 AM
There are a number of aircraft types that I not only think would look cool with a rear ramp but, with some, I am actually surprised there was never a tactical transport variant of.

The ones that come to mind are the:
BAE 146
DHC Dash 7
DHC Dash 8
ATR 42
ATR 72
Fokker Friendship
Dornier 328
Dornier 328 Jet

Even smaller types such as the:
GAF Nomad
DHC Twin Otter
Dornier 228

Or the other extreme:
Boeing 727 (larger rear airstair)

Since my flight into a diamond mine site up near the Arctic Circle boundary a few years ago, where there's always about 2500 people at any one time, and where a couple of hundred get rotated out everyday (100 in 100 out), I've been thinking of more the other way. A large airliner which is short/unprepared runway capable (thinking of 250 in 250 out). We had flown in on a 737 and landed on a gravel runway.

Here's my take on a high wing 737 for rough field work. It gets the engines up off the ground for less FOD.

I was considering a rear door but went with the lumps and bumps. (https://flic.kr/p/vUxKu9)

I made a tactical aviation version of the Handley Page Dart Herald in RAAF service as part of the UN monitoring force in Kashmir (http://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php/topic,33708.0.html):

I've also done the Embraer KC-390, Brazilian Air Force:

And the Dornier Do31 RN FAA:
