Title: SWMBO request - 1/48 Flying Flapjack
Post by: Artoor_K on January 01, 2017, 03:21:15 AM
Hello,

Well, I'd like to share with you about my private tragedy...I've married 15th october 2016 :D Now it's quite fantastic :D I hope it'll stay this way :D
But as you know, I have more responsibilities :P One of them is...well...making exactly this model that my wife wants, ASAP :D Recently, I've got a birthday present from my beloved wife: XF5U Flying Flapjack 1/48 by Kittyhawk, of course with order "DO IT ASAP, AFTER YF-23" :D
So, guys...stay with me during this nightmare :D

What I can't believe is that the USN didn't fly the real one at least once after it got the definitive propellers installed before it got cancelled.

Fuselage is glued together. I've made chipping with Ammo chipping fluid and I must say that is really effective :)

That's all...

Not user-friendly set of a model of very interesting fighter...

Kittyhawk Flying Flapjack is a difficult set. In fact , I'm not recommending it. Sprue gates in strange places, too long mounting bolts or even bolts in inadequate places etc.
Anyway, I'm happy with result byt sometimes I wanted to throw in out of the window.

Exhaust & gunsmoke smudging is perfect! :icon_alabanza:

Great job! :) :)

Still building my 1st Kittyhawk kit & I have to agree re: the oddities in what is, otherwise, a nicely detailed kit - strange sprue gate locations, short-shot moulding, non-existant locator pins or holes & warpage on unexpected parts (or parts of parts). ???

Thanks a lot :)

How ever you figured out and did paint chip weathering, it is perfect !

It was easier than I thought. First layer was a Tamiya Silver and Flat Aluminium. Then a coat of Future Floor Wax (or however you can call it , here in Poland is Sidolux). After it was dry and solid I airbrusher a layer of Ammo Mig Chipping Fluid. Immediately after it was dry I sprayed a coat of Acrylic Mr Hobby Navy Blue. As soon as it was dry I brushed some water on it and started to scratch it with a stiff brush. That's all. Silver paint became visible and voila! You have very realistic scratches , way better than with use of drybrushing.

Good model! And I enjoyed being reminded the principle of internal engines external propellers, so I use the same on P-38 Lightnings, thanks!
