Title: Canadian F4, & the 24 hour war.
Post by: pigflyer on August 14, 2016, 11:43:15 PM
The full tale can be found in the stories section. Short version, USS Lake Champlain was sold to Canada in '69 and 34 months later was fit to carry the FGA10 model of the Phantom. Spey engines, Vulcan gun pod unlike other navy F4s, and a few minor changes and the FGA10 was a very handy piece of kit.
Camouflaged to confuse rather than hide, as you can never tell what back drop you will fight in front of, there was some awkwardness on the flight deck at night, but you can't keep a good Canadian down, and they coped.
A damaged supply ship in hostile waters gave Captain Pickerel and the good ship Freedom a chance to show a South American dictator (and the LBJ congress) how to win a fight.

I hope you like the F4 and the story.

These colours are beautiful, and are a good camo to fly on the bed, from one pillow to the other... ;)

That's some very cool camo and one of the most impressive blue schemes I've seen recently!

Sure looks every bit a winner with those lovely maple leaves!

Would inspiration happen to have come from Reply#50 here (http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=1192.msg1594;topicseen#msg1594)?

The very same Sir! What a selection of inspirational profiles. if only I had a stack of Fujimi F4K or Ms, then my next F4 (Aussie) would not have to be a J derivative.
All hail the great Gekko and the Rhino.

You might like to note that Richard (Gekko) did the profiles whilst I wrote the story (and the others in the same selection.

Well in that case then, you should also be hailed, brilliant work. Although in all honesty, the artwork alone had me reaching for the paints, the write ups
were a superb bonus.

I hope you both find the time to do more of the same with later and earlier aircraft.

Cheers,
Ian
