452 Sqn RAAF based in darwin

RAAF whirlwind operations going well, but extra range was needed,so CAC adopted P40 drop tanks due to being available all over the pacific front ,the aircraft pictured was used on a raid in Timor escorting 30 Sqn beaufighters.

the kit is the less old airfix whirlwind, pretty sure they are old aeromaster 1/72 spitfire decals, the color scheme is extra dark sea grey and slate with RAAF sky under sides.
the base is a slice of cherry wood with three acrylic rods to support the model.

That's really easy on the eyes!

The yellow spinners set off the camo scheme nicely. I'm impressed with your flawless application of that challenging color.

Those Aussie markings are a nice treat as well!

Nice model - you mention a forthcoming John Baxter book - any idea what it's title will be and when it's due to be published?

Nice job on that   :)

Always liked the Whirlwind myself, and the follow on aircraft, the Welkin (I've got plans on doing an escort fighter of it with the wing modifications Westland had planned for it)
