Title: Imperial Iranian Air Force F-16A
Post by: Chris Payne on January 18, 2016, 04:35:08 AM
Recently finished another one of my project F-16's.

This is my Imperial Iranian Air Force F-16A.

The Iranians had ordered 160 with options on a further 140.

After the Shar of Iran was overthrown in 1979, the US Government cancelled the the whole order.

Used the old Hasegawa 1/72 F-16A kit for this with the early horizontal stabs from the Revell kit and Hi-decal line decals.

Great work! Nice work on the early stabs as well, it's such a great touch and attention to detail. This looks the part :-*

I've always wanted to build one in the blue gray scheme they are putting their tomcats in

Beautiful and quite plausible.  I wonder how they would have evolved had they been delivered before the revolution?

That camo is perfect for this bird!

Nice to see interesting markings too!

Well done!

Beautiful and quite plausible.  I wonder how they would have evolved had they been delivered before the revolution?

They had a very long list of gear on order or proposed in addition to the F-16, the number of plausible whiffs involving Iran's revolution being delayed or averted is huge.  Bell 214ST, Kidd Class DDG, Kortenaer Class Frigates (with 5" gun), Invincible Class carriers and Sea Harrier (cancelled before the revolution), Shir 2 (Challenger) and I vaguely recall a submarine project (but could be thinking of the latter Kilo class one), to name a few.  I had forgotten most of this until this excellent little Viper popped up, great work.

All of their 214ST's are in climate-controlled storage in the DFW area in case circumstances ever allow for them to be delivered.

Oh wow I didn't know that. everytime I see a 214 it gets my wheels turning.

Yeah, and since they couldn't touch those, Bell had a heck of a time hunting down another one to use as a testbed for the 525 transmission.  It won't happen, but I would love to see a 414ST, and then put it on a variation of the wheeled landing gear that is a 412 option.
