Title: Here's a little something I whipped up to Pika my interest...
Post by: uncle les on February 08, 2015, 08:45:08 PM
In my quest to do stuff in 1/32 that hasn't been commonly available I present this weekend's rendering from the virtual world to the wonderful demesne of plastic..  can you guess what it is ?

Yes it's a Jindivik with the provision for strapping on a human

in glorious manscale..

The basic airframe was printed in ABS on my trusty UP3D and then with the addition of plasticard in much the same way I did the DHA Glider but on a much smaller subject and consequently much less to do.

The canopy is from a 1/48 F16 which just happens to be a perfect fit once trimmed, and the rest is plasticard, foil, bits of wire and some of those colour chips you get from Bunnings.

..and now my Mk35 Vampire has a little playmate

I consider this to be a successful experiment and now, maybe I'll turn my attention to some serious modelling..  there's a couple of 1/32 F5Es sitting there just screaming out to me to make an F5F out of them....  possibly a whatif from the leftovers...

Did you use the High Planes 1/72 kit as an example ?

I doubt it - Les has released his own 1/48 version.

Lovely work Les! Do you have a release date planned for this little bundle of joy?

I wonder if anyone has contemplated building a flying replica?  ;D

Thanks for the interest but this example is a one-off and not a master for limited production, I just felt like building a 1/32 Pika and maybe later I'll make a 1/32 Jindivik Mk1 seeing as how the airframes are very similar and I know my way around them.
..and no I didn't use a High Planes example as funnily enough, I had a 1/72 version in resin out years before theirs but I do recommend when scratchbuilding to obtain as much information as possible and this may include three dimensional assistance from an existing smaller scale kit !

That looks great - coincidently, I just purchased one of your 1/48 examples of the Pika.
   Cheers....Modelnerds on ebay ??

My father took the first photos published of the Pika at Woomera, so it has a special place in my heart.  He surveyed his way into the hangar where it was stored, took the photos and surveyed his way out, down the airstrip.   He then had the photos taken to Adelaide and they appeared in the Advertiser.   ;D

Obviously they didn't hire their guards for their intelligence but their size in those days....

You've really captured the essence of those early jets, Les!

These beauties are some real lookers for sure!
