Title: 1/72 Armstrong Whitworth A.W. 47 Antares
Post by: The Big Gimper on December 25, 2014, 01:33:18 AM
Here is my second of 5 A.W. aircraft which were successful in their own right but got forgotten by the more "sexy" designs.

The A.W. 47 Antares was a Griffon power dedicated ground attack aircraft. Packed a train busting punch of 4x 20MM cannons

The victims are:

Hasegawa P-40E for the fuselage
Academy Typhoon Ib for the wings and fin
Horz stabs are from the spares dept so I don't know the source
Academy Spitfire XIV for the propeller and Griffon bulges
DML FW-190 and Academy P-51D for the wheels and LG

I am thinking of RAAF P-40's or Hurricanes:

I went with Tyhpoon landing gear. Decals from a P-40 set from Authentic decals.

Done it again.  Kitbashed (blended) right pieces to build a terror of the ground forces.
Griffonized P-40 (brilliant) with Typhoon wings and tail tweaks does look Rusky :)

That is one very aggressive looking attack bird, very dive bomberish.

Agreed ... and great choice of markings!

Well done, Mr Gimper!

I'm really impressed with your mods on this baby, especially the tail fin extension. It blends in so naturally, I think you're employing voodoo on top of your mojo!

This beauty is worth a place of pride on the shelf!
