Airfix 1/72 Northrop F-5A Freedom Fighter
The second of my "Purse out of a sow's ear builds" which is OOB apart from the pilot:

A poor quality kit that required a lot of TLC to get something passable enough to take pictures of!

Very nicely done Dave, I have a book called Canadair CF-5, Freedom Fighter by Anthony L. Stachiw which says in the chapter about model kits available of the F-5, that although the Airfix kit is rather basic, it's the most accurate of the 1/72 kits (for an 'A' variant that is). I have to say having worked on a 1:1 scale one, how the kit goes together is pretty much how the real thing's parts get assembled.

Thanks, Robert :)
Yes, the outline of the completed kit is pretty good but the real test is getting the dodgy bits of plastic to come together in such a way that they match the expected outline!

I've got one of the Airfix kits in my stash (nostalgia), do you think it's because the moulds are worn out or something?
-
No, Robert, I think it is because it is an ill-fitting kit requiring a ton of filler! My kit was an Eighties boxing if I remember rightly.

Great job on the "sow's ear", difficult to do without some "work" :D :D
