Title: Oshkosh M-ATV: New Flanders Army
Post by: Spey Phantom on August 24, 2014, 03:07:24 AM
here's something completly different for a change  ;)
its not a kit, but a repainted matchbox toy  :-\

in an alternate universe, the country of New Flanders aquired a first batch of 80 Oshkosh M-ATV armoured Vehicles to replace the older Hummers in service. in total the Army is expected to aquire up to 260 of these MRAP's (Mine Resistant Armour Protected) for various tasks, including peace keeping, infantry transport, SpecOps missions,....

the matchox toy looks quite detailed (and its cheap, around 2 euro's) and with a new paintjob can look quite nice  :D

here's how it looked when i bought it:

and here's how it looks after being repainted (might have to retouch the spare tire)  8)

Nice ... some of the newer toys are quite accurate.  Liked the original finish on the doors tho - good for a Police SWAT vehicle.

Did you strip it first or paint over the orange ?  I imagine the powder-coat paint some use is very difficult to remove.

for less fuss, i didnt strip the orange and just painted on top of it.
the orange paint was already a matt finish, so it wasnt hard to overpaint it  8)

Nice one Nils!

Glad you posted this: I've bought a few Matchbox type things including a SWAT vehicle which is along similar lines. The 6-wheel ATV "buggies" have potential too, as do some of the construction vehicles. They also do an open-top Landrover with a roll-cage.

The big issue with all of these is scale. They're toys rather than models, and they just rescale the subjects to fit the standard packs, so you can get an 18-wheel truck that's the same length as a small car.

sounds just right to put a sedan body on a 8x8 chassis ! ;D

The only trouble with that is that it the truck ends up much narrower than the car because of it's length/width ratio. Could potentially cut'n'shut it, but that would be so much trouble with a die-cast that you'd probably be better off scratching the chassis and just using the wheels.
