As I anticipated in another topic (http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=4568.msg74417) here is my next work:
A Kit Trumpeter in 1/72 scale of the Antonov An-2 "Colt" generously donated by the Polish people to the free comrades of the FLMB - Front de Liberation Marxiste Bobcalangaise
(http://www.andonio.it/model/an2/an2_000.jpg)
This is the box
...these are the sprues
(http://www.andonio.it/model/an2/an2_002.jpg)
Very good and crisp details but it is full of extractor marks...
I want to leave the big side hatch open so I need to work on the interiors...
And this is the profile I invented for our comrades of the FLMB:
These are the decals I printed myself:
The leopard face and the red star are kept separated because the star is a vector drawing while the leopard is a normal raster graphic.
They will go one over the other in the end.
OK that's all for now, stay tuned and what's more important....
DEATH TO GOLOSO!
;D

Beautiful work! Are you able to print white decals?
-
Thank you Mark,
as per the white decals... no, I wish I was! I have a simple EPSON Inkjet so I can print on normal sheets that are either transparent or white.
-
Love the 'leopard spot' cowling idea! :-*
-
interesting africanization indeed : the leopard (or is it panther?) spots are beautiful.
I once painted a Grumman Goose with a giraffe pattern ;-)

Panthers are either black leopards in Africa & Asia or black jaguars in the Americas, therefore they're leopard spots. :))
-
That's one killer scheme, especially the markings! I bet your Colt finishes up a real show-stopper!
I can't help imagining that treatment you've got planned for the cowling covering the entire airplane...
Watching with interest,

Same here. Would look awesomely awesome! 8)

Hallo friends, here are some steps ahead in this work...
I completed the engine group with its leopard cowling and zebra-ed propeller
(http://www.andonio.it/model/an2/an2_019.jpg)
This is the instrument panel
(http://www.andonio.it/model/an2/an2_017.jpg)
all the part coming towards the pilots is scratch built
(http://www.andonio.it/model/an2/an2_015.jpg)
These are some bones inside the plane belly
I cut away the big door and made from scratch a door panel (left) to seal the back of the fuselage, otherwise an empty space would have been seen looking fro the open big door towards the tail...
this is the cabin floor covered with blister pirces took from some medicines.
Some chairs to be put inside the cabin for the FLMB VIPs (built from some pilot seats coming from the Dabohaze work
(http://www.andonio.it/model/an2/an2_023.jpg)
Interiors of the cabin painted, I hanged a FLMB flag
All the other parts of the interiors are ready and will be put in place after I glue the round glasses in the holes.
Ciao and thanks for looking
Antonio

Not sure about the zebra-striped prop :-\ but this is coming along nicely, Antonio! :)
-
Thanks OW, the zebra-esque propeller is just a non serious idea to make the whole thing funnier... as well as the leopard cushions on the chairs...
:icon_beer:
-
Interesting, thanks... :)
-
I do like the zebra propeller! This surface is indeed too rarely used.

Here's another vote for that cool prop! Nice to see prop blades jazzed up like this!

I understand that it is a fun prop & I actually like the idea but, if you'll excuse the small critique, I think a better result could have been achieved if Antonio had used the decal method used for the cowlings.
:)
-
OW is right, I did not think of a different method for the zebra stripes, a decal would have lead to a much better "definition"...
I am just back from a short holiday and will continue working on the plane tonight.
Ciao
And thanks for all the comments, very useful!

Thanks!

lovely floatplane !

The AN-2 Cub is such an under-appreciated aircraft. We need to see more interpretations like this and more kit releases - AIRFIX missed the boat by not offer this 'what if'.

Are you referring to the kit as a whatif or the scenario it illustrates as one? I ask since the battle between the Colt and the Huey was a real one: see here (https://www.cia.gov/library/center-for-the-study-of-intelligence/csi-publications/csi-studies/studies/vol52no2/iac/an-air-combat-first.html).
-
The 'Dogfight Double' is what I'm referring to, as I used the famous painting of the exact same dogfight you've linked to.
-
Fair enough - I agree, it would make a classic Dogfight Double.
-
Love it, I think the whole finish is great and you seem to be really enjoying yourself. And that is the most important thing of all, it just so happens,
we enjoy your work too.
Brilliant.
Ian :)
P.S. How is Goloso?

P.S. How is Goloso?
Thank you Ian, I really enjoyed making this plane!
As far as Goloso is concerned, he is still there and all the rebel groups are still there getting a continuous flow of 2nd hand weapons and military equipment from our western traffickers, strange as it seems every time one of the rebel groups gets near to the capital, Goloso gets a new load of weapons from somewhere and gets the situation in his hands again...
