Title: Phobos Pattern MkIIIC Land Raider
Post by: Queeg on May 22, 2014, 02:23:47 PM
Been head down on a slew of projects recently and playing posting catchup everywhere ..... Deathwing Land Raider and Razorback fire support Rhino.

Both have minor weapon mods and they're finished in the usual way with GW acrylics over an enamel primer base.  Apart from the weapons they're both basic builds with the dang GW declas being the worst feature. Despite putting them down over gloss and using multiple coats of softner they still had massive silvering, the worst I've seen since trying to use 20yr old Bandai decals.

I'm not really into the GW Warhammer stuff as it comes OoB, I like to see it modified with what I consider to be more believable weaponry (esp, 2ndary armament, like mg,s instead of bolters, etc.) but the base vehicles & the way you build them are just fantastic. :)

Love it! :-*

Wow those are just magnificent, Queeg!

Your weathering is incredibly well done on them, too! I especially like the work near the bottom. It really captures that grimy/rusty look AFVs get after some use.

Care to share your tricks with us?

No tricks .... well not many at any rate  :icon_ninja:

Joking aside it's pretty basic stuff really and a mix of techniques which I think is the key, building up layers.

I used GWs shade paints, which is pigment in an acrylic clear matt varnish (mostly). I thinned it out with water and Tamiya X20A and first applied it neat, them added chestnut and black for differing effects. I give it a light matt varnish every so often to seal it in then apply more, a steady build up of less is more. It also has some pigment drybrushed on in places. Because of the white finish I had to be careful not to overdo things and definitely thinned things more than usual .....

Not mad on Warhammer either, but I love the colours on this and the painting is first rate. :)

The thing to do next would be a 1/35th real-world UN vehicle in "weathered white" while you're on a roll.... ;D

Believe it or not, the Bolters are the most credible weapons in the game, as they are based on 1960's Gyrojet gun technology...

Like some of the others, I am not a huge GW fan, but I can appreciate fantastic talent when I see it.
You turn basic models into some amazing works of art with your painting - something I wish I could do.
