This is Revell's latest issue of the classic old Monogram kit. The build is totally OOB with kit decals.
I enter this here as a response to a couple of posts in the thread on my Airfix F-5E in USAAC throwback colors.
Apparently, Revell's Research Department did a little whiffing when they decided on the markings for this kit. According to Mark, owner and operator of Starfighter Decals, no P-26 ever flew with these colors. He advised me of his learned opinion in a post about my build on another forum.
So, in this instance I unknowingly built a "Whiffer". Macht nicht. I like the colorful model that I was able to produce.

Sweet.

Beautiful. Now bring that scheme forward and apply it to a F-15 for a ver handsome retro-look.

It's a beautiful scheme on a pretty good model of the P-26, too much so to be real, it would look great on an F-100, F-4 or F-15!!
Not the first time Revell got a scheme wrong, the most glaring was their very poorly shaped 1/72 Mustang from the early 60's (a caricature of the P-51 itself), it had a bright red and NMF colour scheme and the wrong name!! "Millie P" was 'spose to be "Millie G" and the red was actually O/Drab on the real 'Stang.
Wots worse is I've built this kit .... twice ...... and not picked up the error (especially the second build in the late 70's) thankfully neither one still exists, that's makes this another Whiff you can do " ..... straight from the Box!!!"

I have two of the Revell bad-P-51s. One is painted Purple. It is Clay Lacy's #64 Reno racer from the '70s Revell Air Racers combo kit. It is weird-looking but I liked the paint and markings . Adios, Larry.

Nice Larry.
BTW The P-26 was not a Monogram kit, 'twas always Revell. ;)

You are right, jcf(The Brain?). I have a Revell repop of the old Monogram Bearcat on the bench. Getting old and wear-and-tear on the brain just sucks, big time. Thanks for the heads-up. Adios, Larry.

That, without a doubt, is one of the hottest P-26s I've ever seen!
Most excellent, Larry! Love all the colors!
You've demonstrated just how much potential there is in those classic kits!
