Title: Sopwith SparrowHawk - it's a big one!!
Post by: deathjester on January 19, 2013, 03:33:24 AM
Decided I'd have a go at a biplane...with a 27 cylinder radial...!!

And here's the pilot, whom I felt needed a shoulder holster and a Browning automatic...

Of course, here's that engine...

More pics and backstory to follow!

I'm liking where you're going with this.

Quick update, new u/c is on, new upper wing attachment checks out ok, and the engine and prop are all together.

An up-engined Camel! What a brilliant concept!

I'm really looking forward to seeing more of this one!

Quick update - decided the tail was much too small, and that I should really fit the engine, and loads of other little additions...

I'm really liking what you are doing with this one. Hurry up and finish it !!!  I do have a question. Why did you use the kit engine in addition to the twin radials ?  Unless you are covering the whole thing,of course. Also in the pictures the prop blades look too long ,to me. I would drop a few mm from the tips,if that is the case.

Hi there !
I just wanted to make a huge great triple row engine that was almost stupidly overpowered! - and I do see what you are getting at with the prop, but I already took some off!  I may take a little more off....hmm....
...
...
And I am hurrying!!

Ah, but this plane is from a time when men were men.....
...
...and goggles were like milk bottle bottoms... ;D ;D

I did think about a hood for this plane, but nothing I have will fit!  I may devise some sort of helmet now that you've mentioned it...

Bah!!!  Tell the pilot to toughen up and to be grateful there is no castor oil... ;)

And here we are all done!

Shown here as part of the 'volunteer' Royal Thai Navy No. 2 Squadron, formed after the Emperor of Thailand appealed to his friends in the British Foreign Office for help with marauding Japanese raiding forces...

Now that's just fantastic! I think my favorite part is the wonderful curved interplane struts.
They add a sculptural element that takes this from model airplane to art in my view.

Most well done!
