Hi folks,
What if the IAI Lavi actually made it into service - what possible whiffs are possible?
SAAF machines?
Turkish?
Taiwanese?
Chinese?
Naval variant?

A rough Lavi with CFTs. Would need to reposition the airbrakes though:

When IAI first started studying the Lavi, they went with a F404. Northrop Aircraft did a study of F-20/Lavi hybrids to brig the overall costs down. There's some interesting aircraft there. Unfortunately, IAI decided against going that route.

They would be interesting.

have to see if I can find and scan the drawings. The "simple" approach was the Lavi wings and tail grafted to what was essentially the F-20 fuselage (well, this was early enough they still were calling it the F-5G, but same aircraft). The more complicated approach was essentially an all-new airframe design to the canted frame at the back of the F-5/F-20 cockpit; this would allow single-seat, twin-seat, or recce cockpits and front ends to be installed.

Production Lavi? SAAF for sure, RoC probably... Thailand, maybe?

That's an interesting comparison, so what-if the J-10 was acquired by the Israelies -----
I notice that the plan view is of the single seaters whereas the side views are of the two seaters.
Oddly (or coincidently), I was just looking at the Trumpeter 1/72 J-10 two-seater I have on Monday night and then your post pops up yesterday. I was comparing the differences between the J-10 and J-20 kits to see if there was any design follow-through. There is a bit but there's other elements in the J-20 which tends to hide it.

Sri Lanka?
Chile?
Ecuador?
They've all bought Israeli hardware (not neccessarily fighters).
How about Singapore as an A-4 replacement?

I do like the Singaporean idea...and I do have a Lavi kit and Singaporean decals...hmmm

Yes, go for it!!!!!!!!!!!! :-*

i think the Lavi / J.10 is more a case of convergant evolution as opposed to being a 'copy' or based upon, theres just no similarities except in basic configuration :-\
as for a 'production' Lavi, South africa would be a probable as there was some consultations taking place at the time
cheers, Joe
