Hi folks,

I was recently looking at a new profile of the Bf-162 Jaguar that Peter (aka Flitzer) is working on.  For those unaware, this was Messerschmitt's competitor for the RLM schnellbomber ("fast bomber") requirement eventually won by the Ju88. The design was a modified Bf 110 with a glazed nose to accommodate a bombardier.

I am wondering what would be a good basis for modelling this in 1/48.  Obviously one would start with a Bf110 kit.  But what about the new nose?  Ideas? Suggestions?

Pe-2?  I have some excess Revell 1/48th scale Bf-110 parts in a box that you can take with you as part of my global recycling program :)

Maybe?  I did think of the Pe-2.  Another might be the Potez 63.11:

I did one in 1/72:

I made a nose-master (mainly from the Bf-110 nose and some putty, and Vac-U-Formed it. I shortened the greenhouse and added (putty, again) some fuselage width to make it a little heftier. The nacelles were two Bf-109B/C (Heller), and I had to move/change the underwing radiators and add rounded wingtips.

A reasonable facsimile resulted.

BTW, I have a 1940-era "Battle of Britain" official history that has illustrations of the Jaguar "as seen over the British Isles" (not true).

I wonder if the Bf-162 would have made any difference to the Battle of Britain if it was in service instead of the Ju88?  I somehow doubt it.
