This is only oh-so-slightly a whif.
I am building the Hobby Boss 1/48 Antonov An-2M Colt (81707);

But in the markings of a Czech registered Antonov An-2P Colt OK-VHC;

I chose this aircraft because it's in a simple but pleasant scheme, which I should be able to replicate fairly closely, & because it's;
a) Not yellow,
b) Not military, &
c) Not bloody RUSSIAN!

The only significant visible difference between the An-2P & the An-2M is that the "M" has a flat-top tail, as below;

Yes, I'm quite happy to call this a whif, no matter how minor the whif.
Build is going slowly but smoothly. I have the wings together but they have revealed errors in the Hobby Boss kit.
The leading edge of the upper wing is lined with quite tall ridges, these are supposed to be a fairly shallow corrugations - I've sanded them down a bit but, otherwise, I don't really care that much.
The top wing control surfaces are made up into a single surface per wing, there should be two. The An-2 has a huge amount of control surfaces but the lower & the inner half of the upper surfaces are flaps, with only the outer upper wing control surfaces being ailerons. Simple solution - cut he upper control surfaces in half & fill the ends where they butt up to each other. This will allow me to display it with the flaps down & the other control surfaces in different positions.

4 parts for the rudder bars (x2)
6 parts for the seats (x2)

If it's the Hobby Boss kit, Jeff, then it's exactly the same kit with a different tail unit plus floats (all 3 versions they manufacture were brought out in the same year).
Build id going smoothly, just a little slower than anticipated, because I decided to put more of the little bits onto the various sub-assemblies before priming & painting.

The destructions say to use "Intermediate Blue" (mostly) where I've painted, but that is usually a shorthand term for "We don't have, or know of, any equivalent to "Russian Cockpit Turquoise"".

The blue green works - I think, like most Russian colors, the actual shade depends on who was mixing the paint that day and how much they had to drink the night before (or that morning)

I concur. But, as Frank suggested, probably the only truly accurate colour is whatever Boris and his mates applied on painting day.

My research has indicated that the colour varies according to manufacturer, factory, time-frame & how drunk/hung-over the paint mixer was on the day (Thank you, Frank! :smiley: )

No AM parts on the kit build, at all - just a bit of artistic licence on how I painted the panels, The dials are kit decals with a sufficient amount of MicroSol applied to get them to conform to the part.
The model company boxes are the only AM parts, so far, & they're from the ETA "Cardboard Boxes: Carton Boxes of Miniature Modelling Hobby Companies" (ETA-266)*.
[*: A good selection of companies (Tamiya, Revell, AK Interactive, Trumpeter, Master Box, Vallejo, Dragon, Italeri, Airfix, & Mr Black Publications (https://www.mrblackpublications.com/) plus those in the photo's, but only one box from each in a set.]

The doors to the rear fuselage are a bit (OK, a lot) dodgy, but they won't be that visible once she's closed up & the boarding door is fitted (open).

But I did the best I could with washes that were fighting me all the way - the powders were better behaved but, still, not at their most compliant. ;)
Especially the dark brown wash! Damn, but that one just wouldn't play nice! ::)
Anyway, hopefully tomorrow I can get some white on the exterior of the fuselage before I put the windows in. :icon_meditation:

Were RW Soviet (and inheritor) aircrews issued with hob-nailled boots or something? Photos of the floor of their cockpits sure make it look so.

The MiniArt box (shown in previous photo's) & the Master Box ... box ... :-\ ... (not shown) are being retired from this build, as they're a bit too big, but they're being replaced by a selection from the following boxes from the same set;
Airfix/Tamiya/Vallejo/Mr Black Publishing/AK - I yet have to decide which to use, I may even be able to use all of them! ;)
There are, also, 3 more resin wooden boxes from ResiCast joining the manifest. :smiley:

Although most of the work was done by ETA (cardboard boxes), Value Gear (steel boxes), MacOne (golden-brown wooden boxes) & ResiCast (other wooden boxes).
I just cut out & glued the cardboard boxes, & painted the others.
..., don't forget the pilot's bag with maps etc

Well, I've finished the last piece of cargo a "damaged" metal box for "Damaged" magazine ... It's barely visible behind a pile of other boxes, but it looked pretty good before I hid it away. :D ::)
And I've almost finished a scratch-built briefcase.

Fuselage glazing is in (I don't think I can fit the 2-piece cockpit glazing until after the fuselage is together, I've had a test run).
Just finishing off the pilot's briefcase.
Once that's done & in, & the masking's cut for the fuselage windows (just in case they pop out when I'm doing the masks), It'll be time to slap the fuselage halves together around the interior.

It helps to be working in 1/48 & not afraid to use 1/35 accessories (as long as they don't look over-sized). ;)
And the visibility is all thanks to the Antonov design bureau & the clarity of the Hobby Boss clear parts. ;D

I actually started work on it on the 27th Sept (my time), so exactly one year later & I've recommenced work on this build! :icon_surprised:
I'm adding detail to the engine, as it's missing the oil scavenging system & (I think) the propeller pitch control unit, plus I'm putting on the ignition leads.
So far - Not terrible! :smiley:

That head-on reference photo was a nice surprise. You don't see many old radial engine images in colour like that :smiley:

Such resin kits are also a bit 'spendy'. I saw the 1/48 FPW Model Shvetsov ASh-62 (48 N 822) regular priced at USD 30.00 + shipping from Poland! :o

It looks like an excellent scaled down copy of the original. Other than buying a resin engine, printing a 3D version or spending hours under a microscope to get every screw and hose in the right place, the engine looks very good.

Yes, the engine is quite fine. Once cowled up, it should look great, busy enough without too much detail so you begin to wonder if it would actually start.

I realised that I'd forgotten to fit the small struts between the top of the lower wings & the fuselage. 1st one just clicked into place, 2nd one & the lower wing just clicked off. :o
Fixed now but I'm a tad irate & the mojo isn't flowing - it's there, just dammed up by the anger.
I'm sure it'll be back to business as usual in a couple of days.

Sometimes the 3D world just conspires to dick you around. Good strategy to wait until the jaws unclench and the mojo returns of its own accord :smiley:

Eased back into it this morning by fixing the paint around the wing joins & the struts, plus a couple of other tiny spots.
Not quite as good as it was, but still pretty good. :smiley:

A little bit of clean-up work required, a gloss coat & some final bits-n-pieces (you know, like the landing gear & engine ;) ).
Feeling quite optimistic about a near-future finalisation here! :))
Haven't done the rigging, yet, either, as I'm waiting for payday, when I've got some generic PE rigging in my BNA cart to order in, as the An-2's rigging is flat metal strips, not wire (which I could do now with EZ-Line).
Still have to paint the wing & tail tips, & the markings for the emergency "cut here" panel - & the wipers, too. ::)

It's amazing what you can do with 1mm masking tape. ;)

So, I've just trialled Microscale™ Micro Gloss & Vallejo™ Premium Color Gloss Varnish on my Paint Bitch & a couple of pieces of clear sprue (with AFV headlights attached).
I'll give them a couple of hours to dry & see how they're going, & probably check a few more times afterwards to see how hard they go.
If one or both perform how I'm hoping, then I'll use one of them to gloss coat the Colt prior to decals.

OK, take-aways from this afternoon's gloss session;
1. the Vallejo surface-dries faster than the Microscale;
2. the Microscale has to be diluted with either de-mineralised water or IPA to flow through the airbrush properly (I ran it at about 2:1 paint:water);
3. the Microscale dries to a hard finish faster; &
4. the Vallejo takes about 2 hours longer but dries to about the same hardness.
Decisions! Decisions! :-\

A third option is Alclad Aqua Gloss (ALC-600), which is an acrylic. It dries relatively quickly. I'm using it more now (instead of Future)

@Frank: Sorry about the late reply! I was conducting research - accessing Alclad, for me, is not impossible but is a bit problematic. So I'm going to keep trying the two I have. At the moment I'm trying to figure out how best to get them to flow smoothly through my airbrush without going from nice clear glosses to slightly milky satins/semi-glosses (which is what most of the various thinners & flow-improvers do).
A couple of quick questions: How well does the Alclad flow out of the bottle? Does it damage clear parts? (This last is very important!)
