Title: Westland WS-67 Blackhawk . . .
Post by: robunos on August 19, 2025, 06:05:11 AM
Just putting this out there, for someone else to run with . . .
What If - after Sikorsky dropped it, Westland picked up the S-67 Blackhawk project ?

cheers,
Robin.

That would be interesting given that the S-67 was a development of the Sea King and Westland was very successful license producing that.

Considering that Westland and Agusta had a history of cooperation going back to the very early 1980s, I wonder if there could be some scope for a new machine that was something of a hybrid between the S-67 and Agusta Mangusta. A common attack helicopter for both nations to use.

The S-67 first flew in  in 1970 and the Italian army put out their requirement fo an attack helicopter in 1972, so the timelines aren't too far off.

Yes, that was my train of thought, the S-67 used Sea King dynamic components, Westland were building the Sea King under licence, with british engines, so it wouldn't be difficult for Westland to start production . . .

cheers,
Robin.

Pity the kit options are so limited...

A bit OT but I once played with idea of putting the S-67 nose onto the modified airframe of the S-58. Westlands might have taken that approach.

A number of interesting ideas there!
S-67 looks like a whiff as it is.
