Title: Vought F4U Corsair
Post by: LemonJello on June 23, 2025, 03:40:51 AM
Objective: "Up-gun" the F4U for its role as the premiere Close Air Support platform for the Marine Corps during the Korean War.

There won't be much changed externally.  I will move the hard points apart/further out on the wing in order to carry gun pods and cluster munitions.

I'm thinking of a 50's version of the SUU-23 and Rockeye Mk-20, and maybe some rockets too.

I'm starting with the Heller AU-1 kit (graciously donated by Fontaine Consulting, Inc). The plastic is such a lovely blue, too!

Still working through a color scheme. I love the Glossy Sea Blue, but I'm leaning to greys right now.

More to come.

“Fascinating!” said a certain Vulcan.
I’m looking forward to this one! This is a very interesting idea.
You could put a larger pylon close to the hinge and smaller ones out from there. Something like the Skyraider. And you still gave the pylons under the fuselage.

I felt there was an obligation on my part to help a fellow veteran when he told me of his plans for that ancient Monogram/Revell F4U Corsair kit.  Having owned that same kit several times over the years and knowing full well what LJ was going to be dealing with I thought this would be the ideal moment to give him the opportunity to work with something that is perhaps better designed and does not feature the toy-like working wing folds, retractable landing gear, and tail hook features.  While the Monogram/Revell Corsair kit does have a couple of decent parts included it is one of those kits that has seen better times that have now passed into history.

So Good Luck on your Corsair project LemonJello.  And know this, if you need additional parts or a sounding board for ideas I am always there ready to help or listen.

After reading this I had to break out my accurate miniatures kit of the F2 bubble top Corsair. Nice kit with a resin engine and stainless PE. With a little help from a Revellogram Corsair this could be fun. Unfortunately I am in the middle of home improvement nightmare so no GB for me for awhile.

@Ken.  Is your F2G kit the air racer version?
