Robin said yes :D
So this might be a real frankenstein, a too big gun on a rather small vehicle.
So here I go, bit of new kit of the Dragon 1/35 BMP-1 and a pre-loved, very ordinary Skif BS-3 100MM Gun
(https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/xo2vgnokq90xsjhvxixa7/BMP_SP_2.JPG?rlkey=cwybsajynnwyjfvg0p9munyt8&st=1xyfiffs&raw=1)
A bit of hackage to get the top off and starting to add a few bits and pieced that sort of look like the BMP-1 interior and shuffle some stuff around.
Early days yet. One thing is already apparent, which the thought bubble did not suss out.. loading this sucker is going to be "interesting".
Probably work on a procedure where the gun is taken to max elevation so the loader/s do not have to hoik a 100mm round over their head. Or something like that.

Now apparently, the steadfast folks in the Ukraine are using these guns from 1944, mostly in a field gun role, but the interwebnet mentions and unconfirmed report of the BS-3 on an MTLB chassis, so who knows, this might actually be out there. The BMP-1 is a much smaller and lighter vehicle though.

Could well be true >:D. You may want to add a rear spade or at least upgrade that weak super-soft suspension !

Amongst other things. Pretty sure I will over engineer this way beyond what the build actually deserves. I do have another hull top, so there is every chance the whole think might change.
Although the though of putting it in neutral, brakes off and coasting backwards with recoil does tickle me a bit ;)
-
Instant anti-counter-battery repositioning. ;)

Some progress
Experimented with using the D-30 122mm gun, another from a storage box Field gun I have... filed for future project.. I like this.
you can make out the new fuel tank location against the engine firewall.
So back on project at hand. Because the gun sits so high, added in a layers seat and a loading platform. Also added a basic detail on the interior of the doors, as they are staying on as they can contain fuel.
Basic detail of the firing ports, to try and get over this is a pretty basic conversion of the vehicle
(https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/2mvt8exd2dh1nt43lajmb/BMP_SP_7.JPG?rlkey=ssj4h8dvx33kwzy57owa4hprz&st=ujy9mpqc&raw=1)
But the nagging voice was grumbling about the weight and balance of the gun, so repositioned the suspension to be a more "posterior" down state

-
Really like this concept/conversion. Kind of thing I try if doing 1/35.
-
A very cool concept
All ersatz SP guns look a little unbalanced ... but only moderately so in this case. Still, good call on 'weighting' that suspension.
-
Nice work getting the gun mounted

Moving along
Building tracks. I have to say for the age of this kit, the indi links snap in just lovely, I use the jig to try and keep them straight.

Rudimentary, getting the impression interior

Coming together nicely, and looking good in the process . . .
cheers,
Robin.
-
Lookin’ good!
-
Love it.
(Real world version below, but an MT-Lb)
-
Looks great and the tracks look like they came out nicely
-
Love it.

Had read there was one, this is the first image I have seen, not that I looked that hard.. might have found a RW image of what I am doing ;)
Slightly different more modern gun, the MT-12 I think... the gist and intent still the same
Found a Youtube of it in action

That will about do it.
A bit of protective superstructure added on. Then a test fit.
Next get it all together and then the paint shop

Sort of looks like an Archerski
-
Son of 'Suka' . . .
cheers,
Robin.
-
I was wondering if you were going to make a casemate...sort of a low rider Nashorn. ;) Looks good.
-
This looks very good!
-
Very similar to some Egyptain conversions
-
A bit of real world going on in my universe.. finally back on the bench.
With a couple of build distractions as well while I was dog sitting, so a couple of OOB builds done there.
The BMP, is just about done. Update as of now, most of the paint work done, a few tidy ups

Get a few more shots when I feel it is going as far as it is going to go.

When a Nashorn and an Archer love each other very much . . . ;D
cheers,
Robin.

... or a scaled up ASU-57. Looks fantastic!
-
I do wish there was a model of the AT-12 100mm ATG available.
-
Looks really convincing, nice one !

Very well done!

While looking up a Cuban tank I came across this...

-
Well there you go... it is real world(ish)
Those pesky Cubans always seem to be bunging something on something else. Oh well I will try to do better next time

When does this idea turn into a light tank?
