Hi,
I've been thinking about trying to do something for this GB but was having trouble coming up with a good idea. Then last nite after watching a video that included a discussion of the Fisher Eagle, which was designed to use parts from other aircraft (or at least parts based on parts from other aircraft) I got the idea of maybe trying to take the folding wings from one design and fit them to the fuselage, engine and tail from another design as a means of trying to help make an existing design more "carrier capable".
Along these lines in looking at Wikipedia I see that the Vultee Vengeance and Grumman Hellcat appearto have wings of similar area, although the Vengeance had a longer wing span than the span of the Hellcat. And they also appear to have a similar (though likely not identical) wing/fuselage connection configuration. As such I think I might try and do a Franken Bulld of a Vengeance with Hellcat Wings, Main (wing mounted) Landing Gear, and Tail Hook. I will likely need to try and transfer over the dive flaps from the Vengeance to the new wings, but they appear to be "fence type" fittings mounted to the top and bottom of the wing so hopefully that might not be too hard.
Here are a couple quick rough sketches to give an idea of what I'm thinking (with the Franken Build shown in between the base Vengeance and Hellcat).

I’ve always liked the wing layout on the vengeance. Now you have to use the Vengeance wings on something else!

I should probably get a ruling before I start on this one. It will use components from three kits, but...they are all the same kit, the old Frog MC 202 Folgore. I have wanted to build the IMAM Ro. 67 trimotor heavy fighter for ages. Figured the engines of the Folgore were a good place to start, and thought I could fake up the fuselage and wings along the way. I will probably use the canopy from another old Frog kit, the Ju 87 G, maybe cut down a little, and maybe as a vac master if I get ambitious enough. I started on the fuselage and some cutting awhile ago, but got distracted. If it isn't considered to be too far along to qualify, I'd like to start with this project. (And the walking FT-17s depending on hoe quickly work proceeds.)

I'm happy with this . . .
I'm all for participation, and the finished model will be of a different type to the donor kits, so away you go . . .
cheers,
Robin.
-
Do like this. Neato

Oh yeah! Looking forward to the FT-17 walkers ((blindées à marcher?), Doc.
But, a model IMAM Ro.67 fighter would be chockers full of weird Regia Aeronautica goodness! Love it :-*

Maybe véhicule blindé quadrupède or blindé marchant? I have a crappy old FT-17 hull. Hmmmm...

Maybe véhicule blindé quadrupède ...
Love it! ;D

And we're back . . .
I've been In Communicado for a few days owing to a computer problem, but that's been sorted, so normal service is now resumed . . .
cheers,
Robin.

Oh shit...he's back...scatter everyone. :o

What about a lower tank chassis combined with a 1/24th truck cab to make a super snowcat? I’ve got a Heller Leopard kit where the lower hull is only usable for whiffing while the upper hull and turret is not too bad. Anybody want the upper parts?

It could become an overland delivery service vehicle for out of the way locations. Tracked UPS/FedEx/USPS?

If there are no decals available then it would be up to you making your own. Or making a stencil as a last resort.

I’m sure I could make something.

This might be a good start though the logos are a bit dated: HobbyLink > Gofer Racing > 1/25th scale Delivery Van Decals (https://www.hobbylinc.com/gofer-racing-delivery-van-decals--fedex,-ups-and-more-plastic-model-vehicle-decal-1:24-1:25-scale-11066)
Something a bit more current at this link: Fusion Decals > HO Scale FedEx Decals (https://fsdecals.com/collections/fedex)
Go to the home/main page at this link to look at the other decals available: Fusion Decals (https://fsdecals.com/)
Google search results for the above links (https://www.google.com/search?q=1/24%20scale%20FedEx%20decals)

Using the lower hull of the Heller Leopard kit is a bad idea. Not in the intention of the GB however.

Hi Robin and Mod Team.
Been struggling for inspiration for this so a stare at the stash highlighted a BMP.
The other part is a already build BS-3 100mm Anti Tank gun.
The thought bubble is to mount the gun on a BMP ? Is using the built kit that will have nearly a full demolition job to get it wedged onto the BMP allowable.

A suggestion that may help or not. Study the various WW2 German self-propelled gun to get a better understanding of how they mounted the weapon sans carriage to the various vehicles so equipped. Examples such as the Marder Panzer Jäger series (I, II, III) vehicles all shared a similar gun mount on a pedestal which might be what you need to have for your BMP SPG.

@BB; Go For It ! . . .

Of less import, but a limiter nonetheless, my home computer has crashed, and will need servicing. Updates as I am able-this is from a computer at the library.

Camarad! Been there myself. I was so glad that the public library computers were available. But, let's face, that situation still sucks!

There is no way I'm going to be able to finish my build in time, I'd probably need another month to finish the masking and painting on my build :-X
